Nominations Wanted for 2022 Community Spirit Awards

The following information was provided by the Watertown Youth Coalition and Wayside Multi-Service Center:

Watertown Youth Coalition and Wayside Youth & Family Support Network’s Multi-Service Center invite nominations for our 2022 Community Spirit Awards and welcome the community to our annual awards event to appreciate and honor the individuals in the community committed to the health and well-being of Watertown’s youth and families. This event is free and open to the public. Light dinner will be provided. To nominate someone, please fill out the form by May 23, 2022 (Click here for the Form: Nomination form Community Spirit Awards 2022)

*Individuals eligible for nomination are those who have:

● Served as a positive influence or mentor to a Watertown Youth Coalition memberor to others in the community● Had the courage to address challenging issues that affect youth and thecommunity● Actively taken steps to improve the Watertown community for youth and families(in big and small ways)● Not received an award in the past 5 years

When: Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Fantasy Hockey Camp in This Week’s Small Saves Cartoon

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal–then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

Mighty Squirrel Brewing Opening Beer Garden in Watertown

Local craft brewer Mighty Squirrel Brewing will be running the beer garden, that will be located in the center of Arsenal Yards. Arsenal Yards provided the following information:

Affordable Housing Consortium Hosting Public Hearing on Action Plan

The following announcement was provided by the City of Watertown:

The WestMetro HOME Consortium, consisting of Watertown and 12 other communities, is holding a public hearing on its action plan for the fiscal year July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. The HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) uses federal funding to assist low-& moderate-income residents, particularly through the creation and preservation of affordable housing. The WestMetro Consortium is led by the City of Newton and the public hearing will be remote and hosted by Newton’s Planning and Development Board. Comments on the proposed plan will be accepted at the public hearing and in writing to Amanda Berman, via email at aberman@newtonma.gov. The deadline for submitting comments is June 1, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.

Watertown Group Joining Mother’s Day Walk for Peace, Seeks to Raise $3K

Watertown Walks for PeaceWatertown Walks for Peace will participate in the 2022 Mother’s Day Walk for Peace in Dorchester. Pictured is the last time that the walk was held in Dorchester in 2019. The following announcement was provided by Watertown Walks for Peace:

Watertown Walks for Peace (WW4P) will be participating in this year’s Mother’s Day Walk for Peace on May 8, 2022. This annual fundraising event supports the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in its critical advocacy and support work for victims of gun violence. This will be Watertown’s eighth year of participation in the annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace.
