Mosesian Center Welcomes Writers & Musicians for Earfull Series, Group that Melds Hip Hop & Other Genres

The Mosesian Center for the Arts provided the following announcement:

While the Mosesian Center for the Arts building remains closed for renovation, the arts center continues to produce live, in-person events on the grounds of the Commander’s Mansion at the Arsenal on the Charles. On July 14 and August 4, two Earfull events takes the stage—and both are nearly sold out. Since the early 2000’s, Boston musician and author Jen Trynin, and bookstore connoisseur Tim Huggins, have been hosting the series, bringing together the worlds of writers and musicians. They prove that, given the right environment, Book People will love the experience of live music, and Rock People will realize how cool it is to hear great authors reading their work aloud. On July 28, STL GLD performs with Regie Gibson.

Revels will set sail on Boston Harbor for a Cruise and Sing. Watertown-based Revels provided the following announcement:

Revels remerges: Join us for a fun night at sea as we sing together in-person for the first time in over a year! Join Revels on August 10th for a Boston Harbor Cruise and Sing with musician and chantey-man David Coffin! Revels is happy to announce the return of one of its most popular summer events, a two-hour sunset Boston Harbor Cruise and Sing! Join us on the spacious Provincetown II for the return of our popular Boston Harbor Cruise and Sings with musician, Harbor historian, and New England’s best-known chantey-man David Coffin leading the fun along with Revels longtime music director George Emlen. We’ll sing sea chanteys and more at the top of our lungs, sip our favorite (adult or children’s) beverage, and enjoy spectacular views of the harbor. There’ll be plenty of time to socialize between sets and David’s historic/hysterical harbor narration is always a treat as well!

Watertown Lit Squad Seeking Writers, Poets & Others for Watertown Arts Market

The following announcement was provided by the Lit Squad:

An invitation to Watertown writers and poets to participate in the first annual Watertown Arts Market (www.watertownartsmarket.com). Calling all writers! Help celebrate poetry and prose in your preferred language as part of the first annual Watertown Arts Market on Saturday 21 August 2021 in Arsenal Park, noon to 5 p.m.

Here’s a chance for writers who are Watertown residents to market their work or simply share it with others, by open mike or otherwise. Writers of any age are welcome to participate by making creative contributions of their own, celebrating the work of others, or just talking with like-minded people. Such people (our Lit Squad) are dedicating tents and a table at the Arts Market to serve as a free venue and showcase for Watertown’s writers known and (hitherto) unknown.

Celebrate Classic Cartoon Character’s 90th Birthday with Watertown Cable Special

Wimpy is celebrating a big birthday this year. This image is from “Egypt Us” (1960), one of the cartoons aired on the Watertown Cable special. “Drawing With Fred” host Fred Grandinetti provided the following piece:

The Watertown Cable Access Channel will be celebrating a milestone birthday of a comic strip character considered to be one of the greatest ever conceived; J. Wellington Wimpy!

Wimpy is known for obtaining food by his wits. This is a cunning feat he has been performing in the Popeye comic strip since 1931. His catch phrase, “I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today” is known all over the world. He has also referred many boxing matches and often resorted to dishonest tricks for his own advantage.

The moocher was created by cartoonist E.C. Segar.
