Watertown Families Together’s “Sail Into Summer” event on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

Are you looking for something fun to do to get out of the heat? If so, look no further than the Watertown Mall! Children and their caregivers are invited to join us for a fun morning that will take them out of the sun by attending our “Sail Into Summer” event on June 21, 2018. Sponsored by Watertown Families Together and led by Arlene Smith, this event consists of summer-themed stories, sing-alongs, and crafts. The event will start at 10:00 a.m. and it will take place in the back hallway, near Carter’s.

Watertown Farmers’ Market Adds Nearly a Dozen New Vendors for 2018

The Watertown Farmers’ Market begins Thursday, June 7, and will feature many new vendors, including bakeries, ice cream, composting and bicycle checks. Many vendors will appear each week at the Farmers’ Market, others biweekly, and guest vendors will not be there each week but will make periodic appearances. The market is open from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays through June 7 to Oct. 18, 2018, rain or shine. The market will close at 6 p.m. after Labor Day.

Catch the Watertown Children’s Theatre Production of “Shrek the Musical”

Watertown Children’s Theatre presents family fun on stage in the MainStage Theater at the Mosesian Center for the Arts with Shrek the Musical. Shrek the Musical, based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and book by William Steig, books and lyrics by David Lindsey-Abaire, music by Jeanine Tesori, originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions. Shrek the Musical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials also supplied by MTI. www.MTIshows.com.

Taller Building Heights at Arsenal Yards to be Discussed at Community Meeting

The Watertown Planning Department announced the developers of the Arsenal Mall will host a community meeting about the proposed zoning change to allow a height increase in the Regional Mixed Use District. Developers sent out the following information:

Boylston Properties will hold a Community Meeting to review the proposed zoning change in regards to Building G located within Arsenal Yards. The purpose of this meeting will be to present and discuss the proposed zoning amendment which requests an increase the overall height of the building from its previously approved 130 feet to 197 feet. If approved, the height within the Regional Mixed Use District (RMUD) could be 197 feet by “Master Plan Special Permit within a defined Mixed-Use project, using adopted Design Guidelines provided the project includes a diversity of building heights and furthers the intent and purpose (§5.18.a) of the RMUD.” (From WZO) Building G will contain approximately 140 for-sale residential condominium units and 193,000 GSF (versus the previously approved 189,000 SF). Discussion will include the massing of the Building as well as the buildings location relative to the Charles River and Arsenal Park. The Meeting will be held on Monday June 18, 2018 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the “Arsenal Yards Development Office” located within the Mall.

Health Department Warns of Aggressive Raccoons in Watertown

The Watertown Health Department sent out the following information:

Three incidents of raccoon(s) being aggressive with humans have occurred in Watertown on Thursday May 31, 2018, two resulting in injury. If you see a raccoon, please take steps to avoid it. Raccoons are rarely aggressive toward humans but a female will defend her young. While normally most active at night, they will routinely come out in the daytime to forage. Never feed raccoons and be especially cautious when approaching any garbage can or areas where food or scraps can be found.

OBIT: Jean Krueger, Longtime Watertown Resident, Had a 60 Year Marriage

Jean Marie Krueger was born in North Attleboro to her parents Merriam (Nana) and John (Gubba) Lutz. Jean grew up as a child in Milford and at 14, her father moved the family to Watertown where he took a job at the Arsenal.After graduation, she began working in Boston as a Secretary where she was known for her fast, error free typing at John Hancock and American Express, to name just a few. She loved taking the “T” bus into Boston to shop for the latest
fashions and spend time with friends going to movies, restaurants and roller skating. Jean met Richard (Dick) Krueger from Wisconsin who was in the Navy on shore leave in Boston on one of her nights out roller-skating. They dated for some time, were soon married in Seabrook, NH, and lived in Charlestown with
other Sailors and their wives.

The Watertown Summer Concert Series begins at the end of June, and features a variety of bands.
