Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Welcomes New Police Dog

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office announced it has officially welcomed the newest member of its K-9 Unit to the department. K-9 Dali, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois from Georgia, began work at the end of November.  Dali, who is partnered with Lieutenant Mike Kelley, was obtained through a grant from Dogs for Law Enforcement. Dali is a dual purpose K-9, having completed courses with the MBTA Transit Police K-9 Training Unit for patrol and explosives detection. Dali joins Pebbles and Elmo as members of the MSO’s K-9 Unit. In addition to providing security at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction, members of the unit provide direct support to local law enforcement, as well as through the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC).

Watertown Boy Scout Troop 30 will soon celebrate 100 years of existence and Troop leaders are looking for stories and photos from former Scouts for the celebration, planned for Feb. 10, 2018. Troop 30 sent out the following announcement:

Discussion About a Possible Re-Trial of the Boston Marathon Bomber at the Library

The public is invited to a lecture and discussion called “New Thoughts On The Boston Marathon Bombing.” The author of a new book that examines a possible re-trial of the Boston Marathon Bomber as his likely appeal on the horizon. Organizers sent out the following information (Note: this event is not sponsored by the Watertown Library. The organizers have reserved the space at the library as is open to all any community group):

There will be a lecture at the Watertown Public Library on Tuesday, January 23 at 6pm. The speaker is Dr. Mary W. Maxwell, author of a new book entitled “Marathon Bombing: Indicting the Players.”

Almost 5 years after the 2013 Marathon bombing, people are making an effort to set the legal record straight. A student at UMass, Dartmouth, Dzhokhar (“Jahar”) Tsarnaev, was convicted of the crime.

Group Concerned with Airplane Noise Holding Meeting in January

Get Your Blood Pressure Checked and Get Moving at the Watertown Mall

In cooperation with the Watertown Board of Health, the Watertown Mall, 550 Arsenal Street, Watertown, invites individuals to reach their fitness goals and
get moving with the Watertown Mall Walking Club! The club meets every Friday at 9 a.m.

On the First Friday of every month, join us for free blood pressure screenings. Friday, February 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. in front of Carter’s in the back hallway, the Public Health Nurse, Wil Van Dinter, of the Watertown Board of Health will be conducting free blood pressure screenings and providing health tips. Regular walking reduces blood pressure, increases the efficiency of the heart and lungs, leads to more restful sleep, and decreases appetite and burns calories. Watertown Mall is wheelchair accessible and accessible by MBTA Bus routes 70 & 70A.

Several Watertown Students Make Dean’s List at MassBay College

The Massachusetts Bay Community College is pleased to announce its 2017 Fall Semester Dean’s List. Full-time students who have earned a 3.50 or higher grade point average (GPA) are included and acknowledged on the Dean’s List. This semester list includes 252 students.
