New Superintendent to Judge Education Foundation’s Dancing With the Stars

The Watertown Education Foundation just announced that Watertown’s incoming superintendent, Dr. Deanne Galdston will be one of four judges at this years Dancing with the Stars event. Along with Dr. Galdston, Georgia Mulgrew, Jay Hughes and Maria Scalzi-Monahan will be judging this years competition. Dancing with the Stars will be this Friday, May 5, at the Hellenic Center in Watertown. Today is the last day to purchase tickets online at www.watertowned.org.

Walk to Fight Stigma of Mental Illness, Support Group for Families Dealing with Mental Illness

The annual NAMI 5K Walk, to fight the stigma associated with mental illness, will take place on Saturday, May 13 at Artesani Park at 1255 Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.   

The entire community is welcome to join in this walk and rally which promote awareness and benefit entire families. Learn About Efforts to Revitalize a Park on the Banks of the Charles River

Find out about Herter Park, the DCR property across the Charles River from Watertown in Allston, and the efforts to revitalize it during a Meet and Greet on Wednesday night. 

The Friends of Herter Park will host the On Site Meet & Greet Open House on Wednesday, May 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. – drop in anytime. The rain date is May 10 at the same times. Meet at the Herter Park Amphitheater, 1155 Soldier Field Road, Allston (next to the Herter Park Community Gardens and Artisani Park Playground and Wading Pool). Find out about the Friends of Herter Park. Volunteer to join one of the committees: programming, fundraising, site improvement, or communication & outreach.

Some Giant Events at the Watertown Senior in May

May means some big events at the Watertown Senior Center, including its annual Giant Indoor Yard Sale, but there are plenty of other things going on for seniors in Watertown this month.

It’s Yard Sale Time! On Saturday, May 6th, we will be holding our Giant Indoor Yard Sale at the Senior Center. We encourage you to stop by from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM and take a look at the wonderful treasures that have been donated. There will be bargains for everyone and proceeds will benefit the programs and services at the Senior Center. Thank you!

Group Cleaning Up Charles River Before Heading to Climate Rally in Boston

A group will be cleaning trash out of the Charles River on Saturday, and seeks volunteers. They will also be attending a rally in Boston for Climate Mobilization

Watertown Resident Cast in Play Festival at Curry College

Curry College is pleased to announce that Watertown resident Nicholas Anastasi was cast in the Spring 2017 New Plays Festival. Nicholas, a junior and son of Cheryl and Peter Anastasi, played the role of Larry in “Houston, We Have a Problem.” Last year, he appeared in “Into the Woods” and “The Laramie Project.” Nicholas also serves as the Publicity Manager and Stage Manager for Curry Theatre, and participated in the sixth annual Boston One Minute Play Festival. The seventh annual New Plays Festival showcased five new student-written one act plays directed by Gail Phaneuf and Marcy Holbrook.
