Family Drive-In Movie Night Coming to the Arsenal Project

Celebrate summer at the Arsenal Project with a free drive-in movie on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Watch the big screen from the comfort of your own car! The movie will be “Inside Out” and the fun begins at 6:30 p.m. with free activities for kids. Food Trucks will be there too – The Bacon Truck and Frozen Hoagies. Plus there will be popcorn and music with a special performance by Bonaparte the Magician!

Thursdays are Pokemon Days at the Armenian Museum in Watertown

The Armenian Museum of America is taking advantage of its new status as a “Pokéstop” to invite Pokémon Go players through its doors. Every Thursday, starting on July 21, 2016, ALMA will be hosting #Luresday Thursday by attracting Pokémon and visitors to the Museum. By dropping a lure in the game on the Museum, Pokémon will be easily found outside and inside the galleries. Pokémon Trainers will be welcomed inside with a discounted admission rate, as well as the opportunity to complete a Poké-themed scavenger hunt through the Museum. This Thursday, the first 10 players to complete the hunt will earn an Armenian Museum Pokébadge, and the first person to find the four rarest Pokémon hidden throughout the Museum will earn a special prize!

Kids Can Hang Out With Cops at Watertown Boys & Girls Club Event

Watertown Boys & Girls Club and the Watertown Police Department are teaming up to encourage youth in the community to get to know their local police officers. Join them Thursday, July 28 from 5-7 p.m. at the Club for a night of fun with the Watertown police force, including dodgeball games, swimming, and a pizza party. Let’s show the youth of Watertown that police officers are here to support them! The event is free for all. Ages 7 to 18 are welcome and Boys & Girls Club membership is not required.

Event Will Show Progress Renovation of Athletic Complex Across the River

Watertown residents are invited to find out about the progress of the major renovations of Daly Field, the athletic complex across the river from Watertown that is owned by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Located on Nonantum Road near North Beacon Street, the complex will have synthetic turf for football, soccer, field hockey, along with tennis courts. The Allston-Brighton Friends of Daly Field Event will be held on Thursday, July 28 beginning from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Community Rowing, Inc., located at 20 Nonantum Road in Brighton adjacent Daly Field. The complex will not only host Allst0n-Brighton sports events but also Simmons College. Attending the event will be State Sen. William Brownsberger, Rep. Michael Moran, Rep. Kevin Honan and Boston City Councillor Mark Ciommo.

State Announces Elevated Risk for Mosquito Borne Diseases in Area

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has elevated the risk level for West Nile Virus from Low to Moderate due to the identification of a mosquito in the general Boston vicinity that tested positive for West Nile Virus, the Watertown Health Department announced. While this is not unusual considering historical patterns of mosquito-borne disease in this warm, dry weather, the Watertown Health Department advises that precautions against mosquito exposure need to be taken. Public health surveillance is conducted for mosquito-borne viruses – viruses that are carried and spread by mosquitoes. These viruses include West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). Mosquitoes get WNV and EEE by biting infected birds.

OBIT: Norman E. White, 86, Auxiliary Police Officer, Served in Korean War

A funeral service will be held on Thursday July 14, 2016 in the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown at 12 noon for Norman E. White. Norman, a son of the late John and Winifred (Musselwhite) White, passed away on Saturday July, 9, 2016 in his home. He was 86. Born in Southampton, England, he grew up in Catford, England during the bombings of World War II. In 1952 he and his wife Maria moved to Watertown.
