Registration Open for Watertown Recreation’s Wachusett Ski & Snow Board Program

The Watertown Department announced that registration has opened for the Wachusett Mountain ski and snowboard program. A bus runs from Watertown to the ski area on Saturdays in early 2024. The following information came from Watertown Recreation:

Who:    Grades 6 – 12

When:  Saturday Evenings

             January 6th – February 10, 2024 (Once a week for six weeks)

Time:    4:00 – 11:00 pm

Where:  Bus leaves at 4:00 pm, SHARP, from the temporary Watertown High School parking lot, 27 Westminster Ave. Fees:   Register online with Wachusett Mountain at their website www.wachusett.com/schoolgroups for lift ticket, equipment, and lessons. Registration starts on 10/26/23 and ends on 12/15/23.

Watertown Family’s Struggle to Afford to Stay in Town Spotlighted by Globe

Outdoor Rink Opening Celebrates Hockey & Pays Tribute to Fallen Marine

Part hockey clinic, part history lesson, part Boston Bruins tribute, and part airshow — last week’s opening celebration for the outdoor rink at PFC Richard Moxley Playground was a community celebration. Residents young and not so young crowded around Watertown’s newest recreational facility, the multi-sport rink, basketball, and tennis/pickle ball court at Moxley Field. One of the big draws for the Oct. 25 event was the Boston Bruins Foundation, as well as a Watertown hockey legend.

Run, Walk or Bike to Raise Money for Helen Robinson Wright Fund

Utility Work on Common Street for High School Starts Monday

The project managers for the Watertown High School construction project announced that lanes will be closed on Common Street for utility work beginning Monday. The section impacted will be from Columbia Street past Spring Street and Marion Road. The following announcement was provided by Vertex, the owner’s project manager for the WHS project. “Progress associated with the Underground Utility Work surrounding the High School Project Site has been advancing steadily. Work along Common Street has been coordinated to begin today.

A PEN AND SHOVEL

On Friday, October 27, 1989 the Edmund Fowle House was visited by Archeologist Edward L. Bell from the Massachusetts Historical Commission. He came in response to a recent discovery at the Edmund Fowle House which at first appeared to be a large underground well in it’s backyard. The following account is taken from my diary leading up to this Historic meeting. On Saturday morning, October, 15, 1989, I had a young visitor at the Fowle House.

OBIT: Heather Whitney, 62, Loving Mother, Worked in Family’s Insurance Business

Heather Ann Whitney was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on October 21st , 2023, at the age of 62. Heather was born to Malcolm and Edith Whitney on November 11, 1960, and was born and raised in Watertown. She attended Buckingham Browne and Nichols, Class of 1978. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Class of 1982, Heather began her career in insurance at J.M. Whitney Insurance and Real Estate.
