Watertown Cable Offering Class on Graphic Design Open to Residents

Residents of Watertown are invited to sign up for Watertown Cable Access Television’s free class in Graphic Design beginning on May 11. In this workshop, attendees will be instructed on the basic aspects of Adobe Photoshop. Along with learning about the interface itself, students will work with different tools, layers, and filters to create unique graphic designs that can be used in all types of projects. The class will take place on Wednesday, May 11 and Wednesday, May 18 at WCA-TV’s station. Wayside Hosting Screening of Documentary Film on Dealing with Mental Illness

Wayside Parent Partnership and the Department of Mental Health present a free screening of “Pack Up Your Sorrows,” a documentary film about singer/songwriter Meg Hutchinson, which explores the realities of living a healthy life while coping with mental illness. Attendees will have the chance to participate in a live Q&A after the screening with featured singer/songwriter, Meg Hutchinson. Who: Meg Hutchinson, Massachusetts native and nationally touring songwriter, poet and recording artist on Red House Records, living with bipolar. Meg is on the Active Minds Speakers Bureau, as well as, a keynote speaker at universities, conferences and teaching hospitals around the country. What: “Pack Up Your Sorrows and Live Q&A with Meg Hutchinson” hosted by Wayside’s Parent Partnership Program.

Watertown Man a State Champion in Pokemon Card Game Competition

After a full day of head-to-head Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) battles, Azul Garcia Griego earned the coveted title of Pokémon State Champion while competing at the 2016 Pokémon State Championships. Held in Bedford, N.H. on March 26, Azul competed in the Masters Division and triumphed in a tournament that brought together hundreds of players from throughout New Hampshire and the region. Along with the title and State Champion trophy, the Watertown-native also earned valuable Championship Points that will count toward a potential invitation to the 2016 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, CA this August. Players that achieve a top Championship Points ranking following the U.S. National Championships in Columbus, Ohio, this July will earn a spot to compete among elite players from more than 30 countries at the Pokémon World Championships. Each year, the Pokémon Organized Play tournament series draws tens of thousands of Pokémon players to compete at various local league events and sanctioned tournaments throughout North America.

Former CIA Officer to Talk About His Book on Intelligence During the Revolutionary War

The Historical Society of Watertown welcomes the author of  “Spies, Patriots, and Traitors: American Intelligence in the Revolutionary War” at its annual meeting. The event is free and open to the public. On Wednesday, May 4, 2016 the Historical Society will hold its Annual Members Meeting with Election of Board Members at 7 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library. At 7:15 author Kenneth A. Daigler will discuss his book. Students and enthusiasts of American history are familiar with the Revolutionary War spies Nathan Hale and Benedict Arnold, but few studies have closely examined the wider intelligence efforts that enabled the colonies to gain their independence.

World in Watertown Hosts the Head of the Public Conversations Project

World in Watertown hosts Public Conversations: Parisa Parsa, Executive Director of Public Conversations Project, will speak to the World in Watertown on Thursday, May 5 at 7:15 p.m. at First Parish of Watertown, 35 Church St., Watertown. Public Conversations fosters constructive conversation where there is conflict driven by differences in identity, beliefs, and values. They work locally, nationally, and globally to provide dialogue facilitation, training, consultation, and coaching, addressing the core of many of today’s most complex social problems where a breakdown in relationships leads to mistrust, gridlock, and fractured communities. The public is invited.
