The Last Watertown Farmers’ Market of the Year Coming Thursday

As the end of October approaches, so does the end of the season for the Watertown Farmers’ Market and there are some special events this week. 

The final market of the year will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 on the green outside Panera Bread in the Arsenal on the Charles. Organizers of the Farmers’ Market sent out the following message:

Thank you all for coming to market this year — What a wonderful season. Please join us this week for the last market packed with activities including face painting, raffles, and delicious, local food! Come celebrate the end of the season with us, stock up for the next several weeks, and thank the vendors who make it all happen.

Chef Presenting Cooking Demonstration at Watertown Farmers Market

On Thursday, the Watertown Farmers Market and Eat Well Watertown teamed up to bring a guest chef this week to do a cooking demonstration using the products available at the market. Watertown Farmers’ Market sent out the following announcement:

Community Chef Carabeth Connolly will be showcasing select seasonal produce from our vendor’s farms and will be demonstrating how to prepare a healthy and delicious dish starting at 4:00 pm & 5:00 pm. Stop by to learn how to make Zucchini, Corn, and Quinoa Bowls, try a sample, and pick up the ingredients needed right at the market! The market is open 2-6 p.m. every Thursday afternoon through the end of October. It is located at the Arsenal on the Charles, on the green in front of Panera Bread.

Watertown Chef Competing to Make Best Steak in Culinary Fight Club

Watertown’s Chef Mike Fucci will battle fellow chefs to see who can grill up the best steak at the Culinary Fight Club in Newton, and the proceeds will go to fight hunger. The Culinary Fight Club will be held Monday, July 31 from 6-9 p.m. at Hotel Indigo Boston-Newton Riverside and will raise money for Fight2Feed and Three Squares. Fucci, who runs Chef Mike’s Catering in Watertown and is a winner on Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen, will compete against Jes Childers of Port Bistro, Arty Bruno of Grill 139, Douglas Rodrigues of North Square Oyster, Drew Blanckenberg of Cricket Cafe and Catering and Justin Rexroad of Clipper Tavern. The chefs will each attempt to make the perfect steak. Attendees can sample each chef’s creation and vote for their favorite.

Watertown’s Celebrity Chef Joining Forces with The Talk Restaurant

Two of the biggest names in the Watertown food scene have teamed up. Food Network featured chef Mike Fucci has become the head chef at The Talk Restaurant, the Watertown Square spot owned by Kaz and Lisa Keuchkarian. Fucci has run Chef Mike’s Kitchen catering business for many years, and has not worked in a restaurant for about 15 years. In February, he appeared on Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen and won the challenge for football food called “Fry-Day Night Bites.” Moving into a restaurant kitchen is an exciting and sudden opportunity for Fucci, who got a call on July 5 asking him if he wanted the job.

Intelligentsia Coffee Seeks to Serve the Best Coffee in the World in Watertown

The founders of Watertown’s newest cafe started their business with the goal of selling the best cup of coffee in the world, and to do so they fanned out across the globe to find growers and helped them produce the finest beans. Intelligentsia Coffee will be opening in the next couple weeks on Mt. Auburn Street, across from Greg’s Restaurant, but the Chicago-based held a sneak preview on Wednesday evening. It will be the chain’s first cafe in the Boston area, which is only the fourth city after Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. The company’s roasting facilities are in Chicago, L.A. and San Francisco.
