Petting Zoo & Water Slides Coming to Victory Field

The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Recreation Department:

The Watertown Recreation Parks Program will be hosting an exciting and fun filled doubleheader event on Friday, August 12 at our Victory Field Complex. Animal Craze (please use graphic) will have a petting zoo from 10:00am to 12:00pm, while Busy Bee will provide two water slides from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All youth attendees must be registered for our Summer Parks Program. For more information, contact the recreation office at 617-972-6494

Bookmobile Ready to Make Its Debut, Bring Watertown Library to the Public

Watertown LibraryCommunity Outreach Librarian Marissa Monteiro hands out a book from Watertown Libary’s new bookmobile. A new, mobile branch of the library will officially hit the streets of Watertown on Aug. 13, but the bookmobile has already proven to be a hit during test runs. Community Outreach Librarian Marissa Monteiro has been working out the kinks, and making test runs in the brightly colored Mercedes Sprinter van — the Watertown Free Public Library’s new bookmobile. The official debut of the bookmobile, which has been named the “Speed Reader,” will be at the Watertown Arts Market on Saturday, Aug.

Watertown Resident Expands Efforts to Curtail Use of Plastics

Joshua TousterWatertown’s Eileen Ryan, founder of Beyond Plastics Greater Boston, advocated for legislation to limit plastic in front of the State House. Several years ago, Watertown’s Eileen Ryan pushed for Watertown to pass a plastic shopping bag ban, and now she has expanded her efforts statewide. In April, she founded Beyond Plastics Greater Boston, a local chapter of the national group Beyond Plastic. “After we passed the ban (in 2016) we all patted ourselves on the back and thought we did a great job. We really noticed that there are fewer plastic bags in the river, in trees around Watertown,” Ryan said.
