Police Log: Wallet Stolen from Apartment, Drugs Found on Shoplifter

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests
Jan. 9, 4:19 p.m.: A tow truck driver brought in a car that had been involved in a minor accident in Boston to Perfection Auto Body and the driver got a ride in the tow truck. Later the driver was found asleep in the cab of the tow truck and refused to get out. Police were called and when they looked into the man’s background they discovered he had a warrant for his arrest.

Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Welcomes New Police Dog

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office announced it has officially welcomed the newest member of its K-9 Unit to the department. K-9 Dali, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois from Georgia, began work at the end of November.  Dali, who is partnered with Lieutenant Mike Kelley, was obtained through a grant from Dogs for Law Enforcement. Dali is a dual purpose K-9, having completed courses with the MBTA Transit Police K-9 Training Unit for patrol and explosives detection. Dali joins Pebbles and Elmo as members of the MSO’s K-9 Unit. In addition to providing security at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction, members of the unit provide direct support to local law enforcement, as well as through the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC).

Fire at Newton Hotel Over Pike Causing Traffic Issues in Watertown, On the Pike

Watertown Police are closing down Galen Street just outside Watertown Square due to a fire at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Newton Corner on Tuesday afternoon. Newton firefighters are fighting a two-alarm fire at the hotel, which is located above the Mass. Pike at Exit 17. Galen Street becomes Centre Street and heads right into the rotary that goes around the hotel. Just before 2 p.m., the Mass.

Watertown Police Close to Releasing Policy on Working with Immigrants

Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn told those attending the Unity Breakfast Monday morning that this week the Watertown Police will release its policy for working with immigrants, and it will stress seeking to help and protect people regardless of citizenship. For the second year in a row, the event that celebrates the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. was the forum for Lawn to address how police work with immigrants in Watertown. Last year, just before the inauguration of Donald Trump, Lawn assured immigrants that they should not be fearful of the Watertown Police. Monday, the chief repeated some of his words from last year. “What I want people to know is that we are here to help you in Watertown,” Lawn said, quoting his speech from last year.

Police Log: Frozen Pipe Leads to Fire, Tires on Two Vehicles Slashed

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests
Jan. 3, 8:51 a.m.: Police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident and when officers checked the licenses of the drivers involved they found that one of them had his license revoked and had a warrant for his arrest in Florida that had been issued in February 2017. The 26-year-old Allston man was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license and an out of state fugitive warrant from Florida for a probation violation. No one was injured in the accident.

Police Log: Man Follows 2 Women Home, Man Tries to Steal PlayStation4 Consoles

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests
Dec. 26, 3:30 p.m.: A man arrived at Best Buy in an Uber to pick up two PlayStation 4 game consoles which he had ordered and paid for online. He went out and put them in the Uber vehicle, but went back into the store and took two more PlayStation 4 game consoles, worth $299.99 each, and tried to leave without paying. Security tried to stop the man, who left the two consoles he did not pay for, but he grabbed the other two out of the Uber and ran away.

Police Log: Woman Faces OUI Charge After Drives Off Road, Deer Statue Stolen Off Lawn

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests
Dec. 18, 12:22 a.m.: An officer patrolling in Watertown Square spotted a vehicle with a tail light out. The driver was pulled over and police discovered that the man had two warrants. The 24-year-old Jamaica Plain man was arrested on the warrants from West Roxbury District Court and from Dedham District Court and was cited for the equipment violation.

Man Arrested for Carrying Unlicensed Firearm in His Vehicle

A Watertown man faces charges of having an unregistered firearm after it was spotted in his vehicle during a traffic stop. On Dec. 18 at 1:52 a.m., an officer ran a check of a plate while driving on Mt. Auburn Street and it showed the vehicle’s inspection had expired. The vehicle was pulled over on Galen Street near Capitol Street.
