A man suffered injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Watertown on Tuesday night. The incident occurred on the 500 block of Mt. Auburn Street at about 8:15 p.m.
The man went to Mass General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. Police are investigating the incident.

Jan. 31, 6:10 p.m.: A witness reported seeing a man walking up to vehicles in the parking lot behind the Watertown Free Public Library and trying to open their doors. Police found a man fitting the description of the suspect in the library and spoke with him. The suspect said he thought it was his friend’s car and when he opened the door there was someone inside.
After a simple ceremony, which included a priest’s blessing, the call went out from the Watertown Fire Headquarters, “Medic 1 now is service.” While the celebration was a quiet one, but the change is a major one for the Watertown Fire Department and the people of the town. For the first time, paramedic services will be provided by Watertown firefighters in ambulances based in Watertown. This will mean quicker response times to medical emergencies because private companies would often send ambulances based in surrounding communities to cover calls in Watertown. The town will also be able to collect fees charged for ambulance service, which had gone to the ambulance companies.

Jan. 23, 5:30 p.m.: Home Depot security saw a man get onto a motorized shopping cart and took items off the shelf and put them in the basket. The man then went to the back of the store and put the items, which included a drill, under his jacket. The man drove the cart past the registers and was stopped.

“Understanding through Education.” That’s how Chief Michael Lawn announced the reintroduction of the Watertown Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy in the fall of 2016. Two decades ago Watertown’s first Citizen Police Academy began, and ran from 1996-2008, with Capt. Ray Dupuis as its Director. Well over 200 Watertown citizens enrolled in those 10-week classes, held in the old police station’s makeshift classroom. It was entirely funded with federal grants. Students gave it rave reviews, but when funding ended, so did the Academy.
Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn reinforced a message he made at the Unity Breakfast last week, saying that the Watertown Police will not be delving into people’s immigration status when they call the police.
The issue of undocumented immigrants has risen to the forefront after the Trump Administration announced it would seek to deport all illegal immigrants. Part of the policy announced Wednesday, the administration said they would deny federal funding for communities known as “Sanctuary Cities” which have vowed to protect undocumented immigrants. Watertown is not a sanctuary city, but Lawn said during his entire 28-year-career on the WPD the department has never sought out immigrants to deport them. “We are not changing the way we are dealing with (immigration enforcement). We aren’t asking people about that,” Lawn said.

Watertown Police took three people into custody on Jan. 17 on charges stemming from a home invasion that took place earlier that day in Wilmington. Police in Wilmington received a call at about 2 a.m. on Jan. 17 from a residence in that town reporting the home invasion, said Wilmington Police Lt. Brian Pupa. After an investigation, Wilmington Police linked the home invasion to an incident that occurred on the afternoon of the previous day.

Jan. 16, 1 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Galen Street spotted a vehicle in the parking lot of Vows Bridal Outlet with its engine running and with heavy damage to the front. When the officer approached, he saw a tire had been blown out and the vehicle was up on a jack. The driver was inside the car and had fallen asleep behind the wheel.
