Watertown’s Police and Fire Chiefs Appear on Watertown Cable’s ‘Inside Watertown’

Watertown’s Police and Fire Chiefs appeared on the latest episode of Watertown Cable’s Inside Watertown. Co-hosts Charlie Breitrose and Bob Airasian spoke to Police Chief Michael Lawn and Fire Chief Robert Quinn about some of their department’s efforts to reach out to the community and connect with residents. Chief Lawn spoke about the Citizen’s Police Academy, the Cops and Rec programs for kids and other ways police officers are trying to get out of their cruisers and interact with the public. The Fire Department has a variety of programs for the public, too. Chief Quinn spoke about how firefighters visit Watertown’s schools to teach fire safety and meet with seniors to put up free smoke detectors.

Police Log: Hit and Run on a House, Pickup Truck Stolen from Street

Nov. 2, 6:31 p.m.: An office patrolling in the Watertown Mall parking lot spotted a man known to be wanted for stealing a car and other charges. Police stopped the man and arrested him without incident. The 26-year-old Watertown man was arrested on the warrant from Waltham District Court for larceny of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and driving with a suspended license.

Watertown Fire Department Welcomes Newest Firefighter

The Watertown Fire Department welcomed Cory Donahue as the newest member of the Department. 

Town Manager Michael J. Driscoll appointed Donahue as a firefighter for the Town of Watertown, effective Sunday, November 4, 2018. The Watertown Fire Department welcomed him on its Instagram page: Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Cory Donahue as he begins his career with the Watertown Fire Department.

Police Log: Man Caught Breaking Into Home, Merchandise Stolen from Cell Phone Store

Arrests
Oct. 22, 7:08 a.m.: Police spotted a man known to be wanted on an arrest warrant walking on Arsenal Street near Irving Street. The 45-year-old Waltham man was arrested on the warrant from Boston District Court for assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and two counts of malicious destruction of property. Oct. 23, 8:14 p.m.: An officer spotted a vehicle traveling on Main Street that did not have its license plate illuminated.

Two People Arrested for Dealing Drugs After Joint Effort by Watertown, Boston Police

A man and a woman face drug dealing charges after an investigation involving both Boston and Watertown Police detectives. On the evening of Oct. 26, 2018, Watertown Police were contacted by the Boston Police District 14 Drug Control Unit about a vehicle they were tailing that had entered Watertown. The Boston detectives, out of the Brighton precinct, requested the assistance of Watertown detectives in the surveillance of the suspects, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. Police followed the suspects’ vehicle to Robert Ford Road.

Work of Watertown Police, Firefighters Recognized by Post Office with Special Stamp

The U.S. Postal Service honored Watertown’s police officers and firefighters  Thursday with the unveiling of a stamp recognizing first responders. 

The Post Office is presenting local departments with a plaque featuring a larger image of the limited edition stamps. Linda Beattie, manager of Watertown’s three post offices, presented the plaques to Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn, Watertown Deputy Fire Chief Dan Tardif, and Watertown Firefighter and EMT David Meagher during a ceremony at the Watertown Police Station. “For the work they did with the Boston Marathon bombers, we wanted to recognize them for their heroic actions,” Beattie said. “It has a special meaning for this town.” The stamp features three figures: a red firefighter holding an ax, a white paramedic holding a medical bag, and a blue police office shining a flashlight into the dark background partially filled with smoke.
