With the opening of school just over a month away, Superintendent Dede Galdston said the number of elementary school students is expected to be more than 100 higher than last year.

The new Watertown High School will welcome students for the beginning of School in September, and the public will be able to take a look around before the first day of classes.
The School Committee approved the hiring of the interim Director of Student Services, who will oversee the special education program in the Watertown Public Schools, and also created a subcommittee focused on Student Services that will look at the district’s special education program.
Watertown will be brimming with arts activities on Aug. 8, 2026. The day begins with the annual Watertown Arts Market at Arsenal Park, featuring more than 100 artists, music, performances, kids’ activities and food for sale. Twenty-seven local organizations each will receive a grant of up to $10,000 from Tufts Health Plan Foundation’s new Momentum Fund. The fund was established to foster new ideas and support cities and towns in their efforts to make their communities better places to grow up and grow old.
Two members of the Watertown High School field hockey team will continue playing the sport when the move on to college next year.

Thousands of commuters on Mount Auburn Street and on Fresh Pond Parkway had a very rough ten days starting on Monday, November 5. That is the day that a contractor swapped in a new controller for the traffic signals and failed to properly program it.
