The City of Watertown will have a new set of goals used to create the annual budget and make decisions about how municipal departments operate, City Manager City Manager George Proakis said during Tuesday’s State of the City presentation. During the address, he and City Council President Mark Sideris also discussed the Charter Review set to happen in 2026, and the possibility of having a Post Office in the center of town.

Despite an uncertain economic future, Watertown remains on solid ground, City Manager George Proakis said during Monday’s State of the City Address. He and City Council President Mark Sideris went into depth about the economic factors impacting the City during the annual address.

The City Council will be weighing in on a 39-page document that sets the rules for how Watertown’s appointed committees and municipal departments operate. Some changes proposed include changing the length of terms for some committees, who appoints members of certain committees, and how to remove members of committees.

The Watertown Community Foundation (WCF) will open the 2023 application process for Institutional and Program grants starting April 3. These grants support local non-profits, community-based organizations, programs, and projects that serve Watertown. Approximately $130,000 in grants will be awarded.

ELLEN ROBBINS (1828 – 1905) – A WATERTOWN ARTIST
Watertown residents may be surprised to discover the many prominent people who called Watertown their home. Ellen Robbins (1828 – 1905) was a well-known 19th century watercolorist who was born, grew up and lived in Watertown most of her life. Ms Robbins specialized in natural subjects, especially flowers. She had a lucrative career selling her paintings and teaching students in Boston. She also painted on china.
James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net.
