Watertown’s history, activities, dining and more have been highlighted in the new Watertown Visitors Guide. The City of Watertown produced the four-page booklet in anticipation of a busy summer in Greater Boston.
The City Council approved 36 items from the Capital Improvement Program for the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, including road repairs, some money for the Middle School project, park projects, and requests from the Fire and Police departments.

The death of legendary civil rights icon Dr. Bernard Lafayette on March 5 resonates deeply throughout the city of Watertown. “Doc” first came here for several days in 2016, at the behest of former Watertown Middle School teacher Ruth Henry. Henry had trained in Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Resolution under Dr. Lafayette. Lafayette had promised Martin Luther King, Jr. before his 1968 assassination that he would spread King’s nonviolence teaching and practice around the world.

Police believe a motorist intentionally hit a goose on Charles River Road, and seek to identify the driver.

Almost single-handedly, Bill McEvoy has become a one-man “Friends of Sand Banks Cemetery.” Already a volunteer at Mount Auburn Cemetery researching historical data utilized by their docents for tours and talks, Bill became interested in the adjacent Mount Auburn Catholic Cemetery (also known as Sand Banks Cemetery and Cottage Street Cemetery) while researching local Civil War soldiers for programs at Mount Auburn commemorating the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War (1861-1865). He found at least 140 of them there and soon his concern extended to the rest of this mainly overlooked burial ground.
James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net.

The Board of Library Trustees has selected the two finalists for Watertown’s next library director. Both currently work as library directors, one in Massachusetts and one out of state.

MassBay Community College is preparing for Governor Healey’s proposed MassReconnect program, which would enable Massachusetts residents who are 25 years of age and older without a college degree to obtain an associate degree or certificate for free at any Massachusetts public community college. If this budget item is passed, the direct costs of tuition, fees, books, and supplies will be covered for eligible students enrolled in an approved certificate or associate degree program who are taking at least six credits per semester.
