Watertown Boys & Girls Club Hosting Gala, to Give Awards in Celebration of 50th Anniversary

The Watertown Boys & Girls Club (WBGC) will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a Gala event, “Celebrating Gold” on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 at the Hellenic Cultural Center in Watertown. This special evening marks a half-century of dedication and commitment to the youth of Watertown and will honor the accomplishments of Club members, staff, volunteers and everyone in the community who have inspired and empowered youth to build great futures. The evening program will recognize community members, Mr. John Airasian and Mrs. Kelley MacDonald with two special awards for their instrumental roles in the growth and sustainability of the Club.

Longtime Watertown Restaurant Sold, Will Keep Current Concept

Conley’s Pub & GrilleConley’s Pub & Grille on Belmont Street has been sold. Watertown’s Conley’s Pub & Grille has been sold, but the new owners will reportedly keep the same concept at the Belmont Street restaurant. After 21 years, the owners of East End restaurant said “That’s a wrap.” on the Conley’s Facebook page on Sept. 18.

Watertown Schools See Influx of Students at Elementary, High School Levels

Charlie BreitroseThe new school building at Cunniff Elementary School, along with the new Hosmer School have seen an increase of enrollment this fall. Watertown High School has also grown. More students arrived at the Watertown Public Schools than expected this fall, requiring the addition of some new classes, teachers and support staff. Superintendent Dede Galdston told the School Committee on Monday that she believes the district’s new schools are part of the draw. The 2022-23 school year is the first that students will spend the whole year in the new Cunniff and Hosmer elementary school buildings.

Watertown Woman Swims Across English Channel

WikiCommonsThe English Channel. Watertown’s Natalie Lang recently completed a swim from the United Kingdom to France. Lang made the 21 mile crossing in August in just over 12 hours, according to the story on WCVB Channel 5. She completed the swim on her first attempt. She trained for the long-distance swim at Walden Pond in Concord.

Faire on the Square to Feature New Attractions & Old Favorites

The 2022 Faire on the Square will have some new entertainment and activities, plus some popular features from previous editions. The Faire on the Square takes place Saturday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Saltonstall Park (next to City Hall, 149 Main St.). There will be bands, performers, games, animals, and at least 125 booths where people can find out about local businesses and organizations. Faire Director Dan McCarthy has lined up some new attractions for all ages this year.
