Arsenal Center for the Arts Names Roberta Miller New Executive Director

The Arsenal Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the permanent appointment of Watertown native Roberta Miller to its Executive Director Position. Miller has overseen the center on an interim basis since September and previously served as a founding board member/co-chair of the $6 million capital campaign that established the Arsenal Center for the Arts. “The search attracted dozens of strong candidates from throughout the Northeast. In our process of interviewing and screening, Roberta rose to the top of the field with her practical, inclusive, innovative, and entrepreneurial leadership style,” said Susan Centofanti, Arsenal Center Board President. “Her prior work has been in supporting organizational and cultural change in organizations and municipalities.

Arsenal Center Selling 100 Artworks for $100 at Flash Art Exhibition

Flash Art, the Arsenal Center for the Arts’ biannual art lottery fundraiser is returning for its third year! We will be kicking off the New Year with this exhibition in January 2016. The show will run from Jan. 7-Feb. 26, 2016, with an opening reception and ticket sales event on Jan.

New Yorker Cartoonist Roz Chast Will Speak at Arsenal Center for the Arts

This spring, the New Repertory Theatre will host a Spotlight Symposium called “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? An Evening with Cartoonist Roz Chast. The New Yorker Cartoonist and author will be at the Arsenal Center for the Arts on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in the Charles Mosesian Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal St. Chast will be speaking about her memoir as it relates to the theme of New Rep’s National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere production of Steve Yockey’s Blackberry Winter, which premiers March 26-April 17, 2016. “New Rep is pleased to host celebrated cartoonist and humorist Roz Chast for this special Spotlight Symposium,” says Artistic Director, Jim Petosa.

Arsenal Center for the Arts Presents a Jazzy Christmas Concert

JAZZ at the Arsenal presents holiday themed concert of A Jazzy Christmas with The John Baboian Quintet on Monday, December 21 at 7:30 pm. Jazz at the Arsenal’s Artistic Director, John Baboian, brings his quartet into the Arsenal for a concert of music inspired by the Season. Guitarist/Composer, John Baboian, has been on the faculty at the Berklee College of Music in Boston for 35 years. He has been organizing the Jazz at the Arsenal series since its inception 8 years ago. This concert will feature unique compositions and arrangements of standard holiday fare.

Jazz Returns to the Arsenal Center for the Arts Next Week

JAZZ @ The Arsenal returns on Monday, May 11, with Steven Kirby’s “Illuminations” Project, featuring vocalist Aubrey Johnson, presented by the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown. Steven Kirby is an award winning guitarist/composer and Associate Professor of Harmony at Berklee College of Music, whose music is most often categorized as contemporary jazz but who is influenced by a variety of genres, according to the announcement from Arsenal Center for the Arts. The Illuminations Project is Kirby’s newest compositional and performance endeavor. It features a six piece band comprising guitar, piano, sax/flute, bass, drums and, for the first time, vocals as a primary, featured, color in the compositions. The vocalist is Aubrey Johnson, a virtuosic singer who is capable of using her voice like an instrument to sing complex lines with wordless technique while also being able to sing lyrics with masterful interpretation and phrasing.
