Coolidge Square Businesses Navigating Sidewalk Work During Mt. Auburn Street Project

Last week, looking out the window of her business, Artemis Yoga owner Liz Padula saw orange cones, yellow caution tape, gravel, and signs saying “no parking” and “sidewalk closed.” The construction zone — in front of the studio and other businesses on the block between Arlington Street and Bigelow Avenue — is part of the Mt. Auburn Street Project. In an effort to keep clients coming in, she decided to make some social media.

As late spring comes into full bloom, Mount Auburn Cemetery is inviting the community to slow down, unplug, and reconnect with themselves through a mindful outdoor yoga series set in one of Greater Boston’s most peaceful landscapes. Yoga for Awakening with Artemis Yoga returns on May 21, offering a guided experience rooted in presence, breath, and intentional movement.

A group of East End businesses have partnered to give loyal customers special discounts. Artemis Yoga announced perks for monthly members at three local businesses: Fastachi, Red Lentil, Uncommon Grounds, and Revival Cafe. The relationship with the businessed began over the summer, said Julia Dunoyer, Artemis’ Marketing & Membership Manager. “We’re so grateful for all of the amazing independent businesses near us,” Dunoyer said.

WEEKEND FUN: Family Yoga, Reptiles, Brunch, Sheep, Radio Dramas on Stage

It is school vacation week, so many young families may be out of town, but for those who remained, you may be looking for some fun things to do right here. Friday from 4-5 there is a reptile show at the library for families with children ages 3-11. Friday evening there is a performance at the Mosesian of the Post-Meridian Radio Players, an audio drama of a few funny short stories by P.G. Woodhouse. Take your older children to get some laughs in. Saturday or Sunday morning you could go out for brunch at Branch Line.

Let’s celebrate that this snowy February is almost behind us, a month to remember. To get your ya-yas out, you could go drink and sing at Karaoke this Friday night at the Mighty Squirrel Taproom. Or Saturday afternoon, you might head to the library to join our Asian neighbors celebrating the Lunar New Year. If you are in a competitive frame of mind, there is a cribbage tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. Perhaps instead you feel like getting mellow with your kids and stretching out your shoveling muscles.

WEEKEND FUN: Cello Concert, Yoga Open House, Armenian Winter Ball, Landscapes Exhibit

You might all be feeling the need for some meditative time this weekend after last weekend’s doozy of a snow storm. If so, head over to Artemis Yoga on Saturday afternoon for a few free introductory classes. They can help you work out the kinks in your back from too much shoveling. Taking in an exhibition of art with the theme Contemporary Landscapes, might also be calming. The opening reception is on Thursday, but the show will be up until March, so it will be there for your enjoyment this weekend.
