Watertown Walks Returns With Trek Through Mt. Auburn Cemetery

Live Well Watertown, a group promoting healthy living, will once again host a series of guided walks in the community. The first one is coming up on Feb. 15, 2018. Live Well Watertown sent out the following information:

Watertown Moves Bike Event Happening This Sunday Along the Charles

Live Well Watertown, the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee and Bay State Bike Week will host a special bicycle event along the shores of the Charles River. The event was rescheduled from last Sunday due to rain. The Watertown Moves Bike Event will be on Sunday, May 21, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. at the Watertown Square Dock (at the Galen St. Bridge on the Charles River). The groups sent out the following announcement:

Dig your bike out of the basement, garage, or shed and bring it down for a free check-up and get some bike safety tips from Commonwheels friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Bike Along the Charles River, Get a Tune Up and Win Prizes This Weekend

Free Low Carb Cooking Demonstration Offered for Watertown Residents

Learn how to make a healthy and tasty low-carb meal during a free cooking demonstration organized by Live Well Watertown. The Eat Well Watertown Event will be held on Wednesday, April 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd, 9 Russell Ave., Watertown. Live Well sent out the following information:

Join us for our next Eat Well Program featuring “Chef” Lisa, who will teach you how to prepare healthy, tasty, low carb cuisine. This series offers hands-on experience and fun with a focus on Watertown’s diverse ethnic cuisine. We are excited to include a health education component to our program and we welcome new team member, Leila!

Watertown Farmers Market Opening in June Under New Management

The Town of Watertown, in collaboration with Live Well Watertown (LWW), is excited to announce that it has assumed management of the Watertown Farmers Market, which is generously sponsored by athenahealth. The Watertown Farmers Market was established in 2014 and run by Relish Management through 2016, with funding support from athenahealth. The Town and LWW thank the Relish partners for opening a Farmers Market in Watertown and providing a community marketplace with a variety of fresh produce, farm, and specialty products. The Farmers Market is a natural link to LWW’s mission of promoting healthy and active living through its community partnerships and educational programs. LWW efforts include strengthening access to local, healthy foods and connecting people to community resources and opportunities that can improve quality of life. LWW’s longest running program, Eat Well Watertown, teaches people how to select a variety of seasonal and locally grown foods and prepare healthy, multicultural dishes.

Celebrate the New Charles River Path, Park & Join a Guided Walk or Bike Ride

Come out to see the improved Charles River Path, the new park along the river, and join in a guided walk or bike ride around the area or just enjoy the park and play some games. 

The event will be on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. t0 1 p.m., and is part of Watertown Moves. The event is sponsored by Live Well Watertown and the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, and co-sponsored by Livable Watertown. The activities will be held a the newly refurbished Watertown Riverfront Park, featuring the Braille Trail, on Charles River Road at Irving Street (see the map below). Knucklebones will be at the park to facilitate games and group activities.

Learn How to Make Armenian Cuisine at Free Cooking Class

Live Well Watertown presents a free multicultural cooking class at the Watertown Free Public Library on Thursday, May 26. Would you like to learn how to make some delicious and nutritious
Mediterranean or Middle Eastern dishes? If so, then join us for one or more classes in this program series featuring Watertown community “chefs” who will teach you how to make some of their favorite dishes and share stories about food related traditions. The class features Healthy Eetch and Cold Cucumber Soup. Samples will be served! ARMENIAN CUISINE, Thursday, May 26, 2016, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Watertown Recreation Offering Free Kayaking on Charles for Residents Age 55+

The Watertown Recreation Department is offering FREE Kayaking on the Charles River In partnership with Live Well Watertown. Participants will pair up in a double kayak for a fun, leisurely, or active ride along the Charles River. Charles River Recreation will provide basic instruction and safety rules for all who participate. This program is open to new and experienced kayakers. Comfortable, layered clothing is recommended; wear shoes that can get wet.
