Dearest MCA Community,

We hope you and your families are safe and well. Our staff has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 updates from Governor Baker and the CDC, and the safety of our community has continued to be our utmost priority. After reviewing the most recent state plans for reopening, we have determined that it would be difficult to implement the early phases of distancing protocols for our Summer Youth Arts Education Programs as scheduled. To ensure the safety of our participants, families, teachers, and staff we have sadly made the decision to cancel all Summer Stages and Studios programming for 2020. Summer Stages and Studios is such an exciting highlight of our year, this was not an easy decision for us to make.

Mosesian Center Offering Online Art & Drama Classes, Activities During COVID-19

Watertown’s Mosesian Center for the Arts may be closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but there are still plenty of arts classes and activities to enjoy, some are even free! The Mosesian Center put out the following information:

We hope this message finds you well, in both good spirits and health! All of us here at the MCA miss seeing your faces in and around the building and hope to reunite again soon – when we can safely do so. Mosesian Center Closing due to Coronavirus, NewRep Performances Impacted

The Mosesian Center for the Arts will close for two weeks due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and several events have been postponed or canceled. The closing impacts the performances by the New Repertory Theatre, the Art By Design Mosesian Benefit 2020, the Watertown Children’s Theatre, and classes for adults and children. NewRep Artistic Director Michael Bobbitt said performances of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill will be moved to April 25 to May 17, and Thurgood, The Scarlet Letter, and Romeo & Juliet will be rescheduled to a date to be determined. The run of August Wilson’s Fences has been cancelled. Bobbitt said the cancellations and postponements could threaten the theater company’s financial well being.

Mosesian Center Hosting Benefit, Spring Class Registration Open

Latest Episode of Inside Watertown Focuses on Theater in Watertown

Special guests Michael Bobbitt (second from right) from New Repertory Theatre and the Mosesian Ceter for the Arts’ Roberta Miller were featured on “Inside Watertown.” They joined co-hosts Bob Airasian, left, and Charlie Breitrose. Two people who have helped bring theater productions to Watertown were featured on the most recent episode of Watertown Cable’s Inside Watertown. New Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Michael Bobbitt and Roberta Miller, executive director of the Mosesian Center of the Arts, joined co-hosts Charlie Breitrose and Bob Airasian for the show, which is now airing on Watertown Cable. Bobbitt, who recently joined New Rep, spoke about his role and the play he is directing, Oliver!, which will be at the Mosesian Center for the Arts through Dec.

Upstage Lung Cancer Presenting Musical Tribute to Disney in Watertown

Kicking off its 11th year utilizing the performing arts to raise awareness in the fight against lung cancer, Upstage Lung Cancer (ULC) presents a one-night-only cabaret concert, A Musical Tribute To Walt Disney: When you Wish Upon A Star, on Tuesday, October 29, 7:30 pm at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown.  The event is open to the public, a pre-concert silent auction begins at 6 pm. Presented in partnership with the LUNGevity Foundation, all proceeds from the performance support the cause of early lung cancer detection research. 

A high-spirited evening of music making and storytelling, A Musical Tribute to Walt Disney honors the imaginative genius who brought all of the joys and fantasies of childhood to life. In 1966, at the age of 65, Walt Disney died of lung cancer. In that year and the many that have followed, millions have watched a Disney movie or the Walt Disney television show, visited Disneyland or Walt Disney World and have brought this icon’s life work into their homes. Few creative individuals have made such a long-lasting and indelible mark on American life and culture.

The Mosesian Center for the Arts invites you to our Youth Visual Arts & Watertown Children’s Theatre Open House Saturday, September 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.! Join us for 2D and 3D visual arts activities, sculpture, a music and movement workshop, and more! Learn about all of our Fall, Winter, and School Vacation educational offerings, and check out our fabulous Members Show Exhibition!

Free Family Arts Day at Mosesian Center for the Arts

The Mosesian Center for the Arts invites you to Arts For All Festival 2019 happening this Saturday! This free, family-friendly, drop-in open house takes place June 8, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown and offers visual and performing arts workshops, kid friendly activities, Steam Roller Printing, performances by Drumatix, Keytar Bear, and more! 

Artists of all ages and abilities can explore the senses with a variety of arts activities like Sound Inspired Art, Nature in Watercolor, Musical Story Corner, and Air Dry Clay Sculpting. The event will once again feature The Steamroller Printing Project where professional printmakers ink up carved plates then roll over them with an industrial steamroller from the Watertown DPW yard to create relief print masterpieces! Rhythm and dance group DrumatiX will share their blend of dance and drumming using tap dance, everyday objects, large drums/barrels, body percussion, technology and tons of humor on the Mosesian MainStage! And Boston’s most beloved busker Keytar Bear will rock some tunes on the green from 11am to 1pm.
