Mosesian Center for the Arts Hosting Pride Weekend Festival

The Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown has announced events for a Pride Weekend festival and other programs, performances, and exhibitions for June and beyond. “We’re thrilled to see more people returning to live events and classes,” said Executive Director Darren Farrington. “Every month, we offer a diverse variety of the best in performing and visual arts that Greater Boston has to offer, and we hope people will take advantage of the easy access to the arts at the Arsenal.”

Pride Weekend

On June 17-18, Boston drag and cabaret star Patty Bourrée returns to Mosesian Arts for her Last Pride on Earth. Intergalactic war, famine, and disease may have left Patty as the last queen standing on a now desolate planet, but naturally, she’s taking this as an opportunity to stage a final Pride Parade for a party of one. Journey with Patty and a cast of glamorously bizarre characters (all played by Patty, of course!) to a not-so-distant apocalyptic future in this all live-sung drag cabaret fit for the end of days. June 17 & 18, 8:00 PM.

Mosesian Center Honoring Photographer, Local Artist at 2022 Benefit

The Mosesian Center for the Arts will hold its annual fundraiser on Tuesday, May 17. “After having to cancel 2020’s benefit and stream last year’s event online, we’re thrilled to be holding the 2022 Annual Benefit & Mosesian Awards in person again,” said Executive Director Darren Farrington. Mosesian Award recipients for 2022 are Rania Matar and Dawn Evans Scaltreto. Matar is a Boston-based, Lebanese-born, award-winning photographer whose work has been widely exhibited in museums worldwide.

Local Premier of Armenian Film “Songs of Solomon” at Mosesian Center

The Boston premiere of Songs of Solomon will be held at the Mosesian Center of the Arts on Tuesday, April 26. Songs of Solomon is produced by two-time Academy Award winner Nick Vallelonga of Vallelonga Productions and Hollywood-based producer Asko Akopyan of Oscar Gold Productions. The film is Armenia’s official selection for the 93rd Academy Awards for Best International Film. The following information was provided by the Mosesian Center for the Arts:

Golden State Productions presents the official Boston regional premiere of SONGS OF SOLOMON, a powerful drama based on the true story of an orphaned Armenian boy who grows up to be the influential composer known as Komitas. Inspired by true events, the film follows a childhood friendship, torn apart by the horrific Hamidian massacres infiltrated by the Ottoman Empire.

Mosesian Center Presenting New Art Exhibit “Across Cultures: Invisible Ties and Journeys of Hope”

Across Cultures: Invisible Ties and Journeys of Hope

Opening Reception: Thursday, May 26, 5:30–7:30 PM

Across Cultures: Invisible Ties and Journeys of Hope, the upcoming exhibition at Mosesian Arts, reflects on ideas of displacement, migration, immigration, and the complexity of navigating different cultures. In this group exhibition, artists address issues from how moving geographically shapes one’s cultural identity, to the discourse around immigration in the last few years, to bringing awareness to diverse points of view. It was juried by Lebanon-born and Boston-based artists Rania Matar.

Improv Asylum Returns to Mosesian Center with Star Wars Parody

The Mosesian Center for the Arts. Following the successful premiere of its new show in February, Boston’s best comedy club, Improv Asylum, strikes back with return performances at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. Taylor, The Next Jedi: An Improvised Star Wars Parody is a fun-filled interactive show where the audience shapes the newest legendary story inspired by our favorite interstellar characters. Each show is driven by audience suggestions, and the star of the show, “the Next Jedi,” is picked from among young audience members called onstage for Jedi training. Lightsaber fights, stormtroopers, and of course a Dark Lord (also an audience member) make this immersive and interactive show perfect for Star Wars lovers young and old.

New Rep Theatre Reemerges from Break, Returns to the Stage With a New Focus

Nine months after going on hiatus, New Repertory Theatre will return to the stage with a show that is part of the new focus of the Watertown-based theater company. New Rep’s We Are Storytellers series begins at the Mosesian Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 23. The two-show festival features the stories of people who have not always had a chance to be seen and heard on stage. This is part of the strategy that New Rep has adopted as it makes its return after the break. The Hiatus

When the COVID-19 Pandemic hit in March 2020, New Rep could not put on performances inside the Mosesian Center, but continued with a pair of virtual plays in 2020, and an outdoor, historical walking play on the grounds of the Arsenal on the Charles in 2021.

The Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown has announced a spring season of arts education programs, performances, and exhibitions for diverse art enthusiasts and creators of every age and type. “We’re thrilled to see more people returning to live events and classes,” said Executive Director Darren Farrington. “We offer so much to do, see, learn, and create at Mosesian Arts this spring, and we hope people will take advantage of the easy access to the arts at the Arsenal.”

Arts Education

Spring classes in visual and performing arts begin on April 5. Mosesian Arts offers adult courses in drawing, painting, mindful arts, and a popular class in developing your sketchbook. Youth classes include comics, soft sculpture, bookmaking, exploring art, and developing creativity!
