New Rep Celebrating 35th Anniversary by Offering Watertown Residents Free Tickets

The New Repertory Theatre is celebrating its 35th anniversary in during its 2019-20 season, and the company invites Watertown residents to be part of the celebration. The season is also the first for New Rep’s Artistic Director Michael J. Bobbitt. “To celebrate New Rep’s 35th Anniversary Season, and to show our appreciation for the Watertown community, we are delighted to offer one free ticket to each Watertown resident for our 2019-2020 season!” Bobbitt said in the celebration announcement. This free ticket can be used at any of our productions between September and May.

Watertown Girl Cast in Worcester Production of Broadway’s “Waitress”

Watertown’s Charlie Currier-Brown will play Lulu in the Worcester production of “Waitress.” The following information was provided by The Hanover Theatre:

The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts is pleased to announce the two young, local actresses who will appear in the Worcester run of Broadway’s Waitress the musical, May 22-26. Watertown’s Charlie Currier-Brown and West Boylston’s Everleigh Clark will alternate in the role of “Lulu,” the daughter of the production’s main character, Jenna. Both Everleigh and Charlie were among more than 30 girls who auditioned on April 18 at The Hanover Theatre Conservatory. The girls expressed excitement for the opportunity to perform with the Waitress cast.

Watertown High School will present the musical “Urinetown” three times this weekend. (The time of the Sunday production of Urinetown has been updated.)

Watertown High School will present three productions of the musical, Urinetown, this weekend. The WHS spring musical will be performed at the Watertown High School on Friday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m.

Musical Theatre International had the following description of the show:

Urinetown, is in fact, a satire of almost every musical you can think of. More than this it parodies the traditions of musicals as a whole in terms of style, structure and story. It also jabs at the legal system, capitalism, corrupt corporation, waste in terms of the environment and our sense of entitlement (amongst other things).

Perkins Announces Schedule of Audio Described Theater Performances for 2018-19

New Rep Theatre’s 1776 is one of the performances around the Boston area featuring audio descriptions for those blind or visually impaired. The following information came from Perkins School for the Blind:

Preshow description of sets and costumes for performances at all locations generally begins 60 minutes prior to curtain (unless otherwise noted). WHAT: Patrick Gabridge, Artist-in-Residence at Mount Auburn Cemetery, will offer a free lunchtime talk in Mount Auburn’s Story Chapel (580 Mt Auburn St, Cambridge, MA 02138) to discuss his process for researching and writing plays with a special focus on the unique challenges and opportunities of site-specific plays written for outdoor spaces. He will share his current sources of inspiration at Mount Auburn as he works on a series of short plays to debut in 2019. Playwright Patrick Gabridge is an award-winning writer of historical and contemporary stage plays, novels, audio plays, and screenplays.

Catch Plays Written by Local Playwrights at Watertown’s Plumbing Museum

The following information was provided by the Plumbing Museum:
The Plumbing Museum is excited to announce a two night comedy PlayFest this July inspired by historical publications and archival materials in the Plumbing Museum collection. The production is written, acted, and directed by Massachusetts residents. The playwrights are largely local to eastern Massachusetts, and most belong to Write On!, a playwriting group sponsored by Centastage that develops and produces new plays. The festival, representing a diversity of voices and comedy styles, will feature premiere performances of all of the pieces. “We are thrilled to share this exciting lineup of theatre performances and create new museum-community partnerships while supporting professional playwrights” says Sasha Parfenova, Museum Program Manager. Bringing in arts-integrated projects to the museum creates a perfect platform for community fostering.
