Visit us at our open house on September 27th and October 16th to take a tour of our studio space, learn about what kind of video production workshops we’re offering, and learn about many other ways to get involved here at Watertown’s only cable access station. We can get you started on everything you need to put together your own
television program. You’ll be able to meet with our staff, some of our volunteers, and board members.

World War II Veteran Who Served on a Navy Destroyer Shares His Story with Watertown Cable

Watertown Cable host Bob Kaprielian recently spoke to a 92-year-old Navy veteran from Watertown for the cable show A Veteran’s Story. Watertown Cable Access TV sent out the following announcement:
Watertown Cable Access presents the story of Signal Man 2nd Class, Rick Erikson, a sailor aboard the USS Lewis Destroyer Escort who served in the Pacific during World War II. A resident of Stoneleigh Road in Watertown, Erikson remembers seeing the United States flag flying over Iwo Jima, one among the dwindling numbers who witnessed the flag. He recounts being in the typhoon that ravaged the U.S. Navy’s fleet off the coast of Okinawa and tells the story of the numerous kamikaze attacks that sank the destroyer just behind the USS Lewis in the picket line. Seaman second class Erikson is believed to be one of only four surviving shipmates on the USS Lewis.

Watertown Cable Celebrating 85 Years Since Debut of Popeye the Sailor

The following information was provided by Fred Grandinetti, host of Watertown Cable’s Drawing With Fred:

The Watertown Channel will be honoring the animated film debut of Popeye the Sailor with a special.Eighty-five years ago, on July 14, 1933, the sailor man jumped on stage to dance the hula with Betty Boop. Over 500 animated cartoons followed for both motion picture and television screens. Today the sailor has millions of followers on face book located at https://www.facebook.com/Popeye/

The special will feature cartoons which originally appeared on the big screen. These titles include, “I’m In the Army Now” (1935), “I Never Changes My Altitude” (1937) and “With Poopdeck Pappy” (1940). Here is the program’s schedule during the remainder of July and through August:
Sunday- 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday- 3:00 p.m.
Thursday-6:30 p.m.
Saturday- 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

‘Equalizer 2’ Actor Also Appearing on Watertown Cable Show

Watertown Cable host Fred Grandinetti has an eye for talent. He has had some actors who have gone on to the big screen to be guests on his show, Drawing With Fred. Grandinetti announced that award winning actor, Kazy Tauginas — who can be seen in the new movie Equalizer 2  — will appear on Drawing With Fred which airs on The Watertown Channel. Tauginas, a professional boxer, spars with a partner and quickly swallows a can of spinach to introduce a Popeye cartoon. Taugnias stars, and wrote the screenplay, for the award winning film Standing Eight.

Watertown Community Foundation, Historical Society Featured on Inside Watertown

Catch the latest episode of Inside Watertown, the Watertown Cable Access TV show hosted by Watertown News Editor Charlie Breitrose and longtime local business and community leader Paul Airasian. This month, the guests were from the Watertown Community Foundation and the Historical Society of Watertown. First, the Historical Society’s Marilynne Roach talked about the upcoming Treaty Day, which celebrates both America’s first treaty with a foreign government and the first reading of the Declaration of Independence in Massachusetts. Both events took place right here in Watertown! The event will be on July 14, 2018, at the Edmund Fowle House.

Watertown Cable Host Adds a Touch of Hollywood to His Show

The host of a local cable show added a dose of Hollywood to his upcoming shows when he hosted an actor who has been in dozens of shows, including The Walking Dead, CSI and Hawaii Five-0. 

Last week, Fred Grandinetti sat in the kitchen of his Watertown home with Cuyle Carvin after the pair shot some scenes for Grandinetti’s Watertown Cable Access TV show, Drawing with Fred. They also stopped by The Comic Stop on Main Street to sign some comic books drawn by Grandinetti featuring Carvin. Carvin came up from Atlanta to be in the show. He moved there from Los Angeles because the number of shows and movies being made in Georgia has increased greatly and it improved his odds of getting parts. “They say you get one part out of 50 or 60 auditions,” Carvin said.

Senior Center, Live Well Watertown, Farmers Market & Food Pantry Featured on Local Cable Show

The latest episode of Inside Watertown features interviews with representatives from Live Well Watertown, the Watertown Senior Center, the Watertown Farmers Market and the Watertown Food Pantry. The locally produced cable show is hosted by Paul Airasian and Charlie Breitrose. This first segment of this month’s show features Stephanie Venizelos from Live Well Watertown, and Ashley Wagner from the Watertown Farmers Market. The second half of the show includes an interview with Watertown Director of Senior Services Anne-Marie Gagnon and Watertown Food Pantry Coordinator Kathy Cunningham. Episode 6 is now airing on Watertown Cable’s Public Channel (Comcast Channel 9, RCN Channel 13) on these days and times.

The Impact of the Opioid Crisis Discussed on Latest Episode of Inside Watertown

The most recent episode of Inside Watertown focuses on the opioid crisis in Watertown, what is being done to slow it and where people can turn for help. Lt. Daniel Unsworth from the Watertown Police Department and Pete Airasian, one of the founders of Watertown Against Addiction, spoke with hosts Paul Airasian and Charlie Breitrose about how opioids have increased in town and efforts to curb the influx locally. They also covered ways people can seek treatment for opioid use and other drugs and alcohol. Watch the episode in January on Watertown Cable’s Public Channel on the following days times: Sundays at 8 p.m., Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m., Thursdays at 10 a.m. and Fridays at 9 p.m.
