Watertown Summer Basketball Champ Crowned

The 2019 champions of the Watertown Summer Basketball League, HBC. The team beat New Day 68-60 in game 2 of the finals. The 2019 champion of the Watertown Summer Basketball League took down the defending champ to claim the crown Thursday night. HBC defeated New Day, 68-60, in game 2 of the Papas Elite finals, which was delayed a day due to weather. The league, which plays on the outdoor court at Saltonstall Park, features current and former college basketball players.

Finals Set for Watertown Summer Basketball League

The Watertown Summer Basketball League finals begin Aug. 19. The Watertown Summer League playoffs have been narrowed to the top two teams, and the finals begin next week. Top seeded HBC will take on the third seed, New Day, in the Papas Elite League finals. The Watertown Summer League features current and former college basketball players.

Summer Basketball League Playoffs Semifinals Start Tuesday

The semifinals of the Watertown Summer Basketball League start Tuesday night. The four winners of the Watertown Summer Basketball League quarterfinals move to Tuesday night’s semifinals. Three of the four quarterfinals followed the seedings on Monday night, but there was one upset. The fifth seeded Zards defeated the fourth seeded Middlesex Magic 60-58. The top seed, HBC, beat eighth seed Made Men by double digits, 67-51.

Learn to Fish at Watertown Recreation’s Weeklong Camp

Teens and kids can learn to fish at the Watertown Recreation Department’s Fishing Academy. The Watertown Recreation Department provided the following information:

Watertown Recreation and the Fishing Academy are partnering to offer a learn to fish program. The objectives of the program are to give elementary, middle, and high school students the chance to learn the fundamentals of fishing and water safety. Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes (shorts, t-shirts, and old athletic shoes). All fishing equipment will be provided by The Fishing Academy.

Watertown Recreation Hosting Trip to Water Park

The Watertown Recreation Department will be taking children to the Water Wizz park on Thursday, Aug. 1. The water park in East Wareham features rides such as the Hurricane Hill, Harpoon Lagoon, Pirates Plunge and Herring River Run. Children must be at least 9 years old and be able to swim. The trip costs $30 for Watertown residents and will leave Victory Field at 9 a.m. and return there at 5 p.m.

Registration is required and will be one a first-come, first-serve basis.

Kayak on the Charles River with the Recreation Department

Kayakers will hit the Charles River June 15 in the annual event sponsored by the Watertown Recreation Department. Once again, the Watertown Recreation Department will hold its kayaking on the Charles River event, and sign ups are now available. Recreation Director Peter Centola sent out the following information:

Registration Open for Watertown Rec’s Pequossette Summer Program

The Watertown Recreation Department provided the following information:

The Watertown Recreation Department is offering the Pequossette Summer Program to children who are entering grades one through eight in September 2019. The program consists of eight individual weeks from June 24 through August 16, 2019 at the Watertown Middle School, 68 Waverley Avenue in Watertown. The program will operate Monday through Friday from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm, except for Week 2 which will run Monday, July 1st through Wednesday, July 3rd. We offer an early drop off from 7:30 am to 8:45 am and an extended day program from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The Watertown Middle School and Moxley Playground, which includes a large field space, playground area, basketball court, and tennis courts, has allowed the Recreation Department the opportunity to offer a wide range of activities to entertain the children.

Registration Open for Watertown Recreation’s February Break Program

Registration opened for the Watertown Recreation Department’s February Vacation Program from Feb. 19 to 22. The program is open to students in grades 1-8, and runs from Tuesday to Friday on the week of February Vacation at Watertown Middle School. The Recreation Department provided the following description: Children will be divided into groups by grades at the start of the program. They will participate in activities such as basketball, whiffle ball, floor hockey and indoor soccer, etc.
