The Watertown High School boys soccer team hopes to make another deep run in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament. The Raiders will start their tourney with a home game on Friday night.
Watertown will host Gloucester at Victory Field at 6 p.m. on Friday in a Div. 5 North first round game. The Raiders (12-5-1) earned the fourth seed in the North, while Gloucester (5-11-1) comes in as the 13th seed.
Watertown High School’s field hockey team will begin its quest for its 10th straight State Championship on Friday afternoon at Victory Field. The Raiders earned the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Div. 2 North tournament. Watertown finished the regular season undefeated, with a record of 16-0-1.
Two Watertown High School teams claimed Middlesex League titles this fall.

The Raiders claimed the Middlesex Freedom title by beating Burlington 3-0, and the team gave its coach a milestone victory. Tuesday’s win gave Watertown’s second league title — the last coming in 2016 — and the first time the school won the league outright. On Thursday, the Raiders defeated Wilmington 3-1, with junior Gevork Karapetyan scoring two goals in the road victory. The win also gave coach Frank Cacia his 200th career win and 100th win with Watertown. The Raiders will find out their first tournament opponent this week.
Watertown senior quarterback Nick McDermott and sophomore running back Shakel Inniss each scored touchdowns, but the Raiders’ comeback effort fell short against Wakefield Friday night. Watertown High School’s 21-13 loss at Victory Field drops the Raiders to 1-6 on the year, and into an unfamiliar position for the team under coach John Cacace. The Raiders look like they will miss the MIAA Div. 5 North tournament for the first time in several years, and — with four games remaining — will have a losing record. Former Raiders made their alma mater proud over the weekend, with several scoring goals for their college team and another notching a win in goal. Watertown High School grads can be found at field hockey programs around the NCAA, and one family, in particular, had a successful weekend. Kourtney Kennedy, a sophomore forward at UConn, scored her first career goal in against No. 1 ranked North Carolina in a game played at Boston College on Sunday. The No.
The undefeated Stoneham football team paid a visit to Victory Field Friday night, and dealt Watertown High School a 51-13 loss. The Raiders (1-5) offense struggled against the Spartans (6-0), and did not score until the fourth quarter. By that time, Stoneham had scored several touchdowns. Watertown junior Karim Monroe scored on a four yard run, but the extra point was missed. The Raiders’ second score came on a 42-yard dash by sophomore running back Shakel Inniss.
The Arlington-Watertown girls swimming team split a pair of dual meets over the past couple weeks. On Sept. 23, the coop team lost to reading 58-35, but the team had two swimmers and a relay qualify for the State Meet, according to Head Coach Adlar Su. Sarah Peterson qualified in the 50 free, Isabelle Houseman qualified in the 200 individual medley, and the 200 free relay qualified. Watertown swimmer Niamh Murphy third place in the 200 free and was part of the winning 400 free relay.
The Watertown High School football team’s struggles continued on its trip to Wilmington Friday night, where the Raiders fell 33-7. After winning the season opener, the Raiders have dropped the next three leading up to their Middlesex League game at Wilmington. On Friday, Wilmington built a 14 point second quarter lead before the Raiders struck back. Watertown’s David Manoukian then returned the kickoff 72-yards for a touchdown. Wilmington kept the Raiders out of the end zone in the second half, while Peter Marino scored his second and third touchdowns of the evening.
