The Arsenal Mall will not only be renovated and redeveloped, but owners Boylston Properties will also rename it Arsenal Yards.
Bill McQuillan, principal of Boylston Properties, revealed the new name in an article in the Boston Globe.
The project has been presented to the Planning Board once, but developers will be back in Town Hall on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. to discuss traffic and transportation. The board may vote on the project that night.
Plans call for the addition of buildings along Arsenal Street, and farther back in what is now the front parking lot. A 12-story residential building closer to the back of the property is also proposed. Most of the buildings would have retail on the ground floor and residential units on top.
New additions include a movie theater, a market, a bowling alley and plazas for people to walk between stores or to just sit down and relax.
Along with the size of the renovated mall, traffic has been one of the biggest fears of residents who have attended meetings about the project. Also, a proposed driveway from the back parking lot onto Greenough Boulevard has upset some.
