A Public Information Meeting for the Gore Place Agrivoltaics project will be held on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m.

The following notice was provided by the City of Watertown:

Notice is hereby given that the Petitioner will be holding a Public Information Meeting related to Gore Place Agrivoltaics on March 31, 2026.

Project Description and Location

The Gore Place Agrivoltaics project proposes new uses for the easternmost 10 acres of the property. This will be a multi-phased project. The first phase will include installing solar panels on roughly 3 ½ acres on the southern portion of the parcel. This installation will also be used as pastureland for sheep, so there will be fencing similar to the other pasturelands at Gore Place. Later stages of the project may include site improvements including creating new pathways, planting screening vegetation, establishing an apple orchard, and adding a gateway at the northern edge of the property. The project proposal will include a description, site plans, and renderings.

The meeting is presented by the project team sharing existing site context, conditions, and the redevelopment plans. The meeting also provides time for the community to ask questions, provide comments, and learn more about the project process.

The Gore Place Agrivoltaics project will be located on the 10 acre site bordered by Main Street on the north, Waltham Street on the south, the stream that runs through Gore Place on the western and the eastern property line of Gore Place, near Edward Road.

  1. Sounds like a worthy project to both protect this landmark and continue to move in the direction of clean energy. With this absurd Trump war in Iran over oil, we are reminded daily of the importance of initiatives like this.

  2. What a horrible idea. The attraction of Gore Place is the open spaces. They certainly don’t need the money. Christopher Gore must be rolling over in his grave.

  3. If they build it high enough and spread out the panels enough then the land underneath will still be accessible. Otherwise it’s just another large open space given up to tech.
Do we really want to give up our rare open space to tech?

  4. This commenter understands 10 acres is equivalent to 7.5 football fields. Converted from open, green space to solar panels. But if I’m mistaken, I will stand corrected.

    • The solar panel project covers 3 1/2 acres, as stated clearly in the first paragraph of the project description. That’s about a third of the easternmost 10 acres of the total 45 acre estate. Potential uses for the remaining 7 1/2 acres of the easternmost section are also mentioned in the project description above. Further solar panels is not one of them.
