Gov. Closes Schools Through the End of the School Year Due to COVID-19

Charlie Baker announced Tuesday afternoon that all K-12 school buildings, public and private, will remain closed through the end of the school year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Baker made the announcement during his COVID-19 update at noon on Tuesday. He said there has been no guidance that would allow schools to safely reconvene during the Coronavirus outbreak. Baker told students that the state order does not mean that students should stop laerning.

Two More COVID-19 Related Deaths in Watertown, New Cases in State Falling Slightly

The Watertown Health Department announced Monday that the number of COVID-19 related deaths rose to seven, with the two most recent fatalities. Watertown’s total positive Coronavirus cases rose to 147, and 46 people have recovered, according to the Health Department. The new cases in Massachusetts have been going down, according to the latest information released by the Mass. Department of Public Health. On Monday, the state had 1,566 new cases, and there were 103 more COVID-19 related deaths.

The Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance provided the following Q&A about Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, the program that was created by the Federal CARES Act. 85 Walnut St., Old Sterritt Lumber Site Projects on Zoning Board Agenda

A rendering of the proposed apartment complex at 148 Waltham St., the former Sterritt Lumber site. The project proposed for the former Doble Engineering property at 85 Walnut Street, and the apartment building proposed for the former Sterritt Lumber site on Waltham Street will be heard by the Watertown Zoning Board of Appeals Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The board will meet using the Zoom app, and will also be televised by Watertown Cable. The meeting will be held remotely to comply with orders related to the COVID-19 outbreak. The public will have remote opportunities for participation by joining the Zoom meeting, by phone or by sending emails. Developers of the former Sterritt Lumber site have filed for a comprehensive permit for the proposed apartment which was initially proposed as a Chapter 40B project.

Police Log: Pair Get into Fight on Street, Packages Stolen from Homes

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests 

April 8, 10:45 p.m.: Watertown Police were contacted by Middlesex County probation about a man in town wanted on a warrant. Officers located him at a home in Watertown and placed the 34-year-old Natick man under arrest on the warrant. April 11, 12:50 a.m.: Police received a report of a disturbance in the municipal parking lot behind CVS. When officers arrived they spoke to the people involved and found one of them had an outstanding warrant.

Town Delays Due Date for Property Tax, Water Bills; Ages of Watertown COVID-19 Cases; Hosting Business Webinar

Watertown residents will received a brief reprieve form paying their property taxes and water/sewer bills, and the Town Manager announced the breakdown of ages of the Town’s COVID-19 cases. Friday afternoon, Town Manger Michael Driscoll released his latest COVID-19 update, in which he announced the delaying of payment deadline for local bills. Property taxes will be due a month later, on June 1, 2020. This will be the due date even if the bill received indicates that the due date is May 1, 2020. The town will no charge late fees or interest on water and sewer bills that were marked due on March 10 or later.
