Watertown Police Warn of Utility Scam in Town

The Watertown Police Department warns residents to be aware of a scam involving someone posing a representative from a utility. The Watertown Police posted the following announcement on its Facebook page:

WPD received a complaint regarding a “utility company” impostor scam. As always, make sure to verify the credentials of the individual before giving out any financial or personal information. Your utility bill and the internet are good reference points. Scammers request payment through gift cards and Western Union.

What It Would Take For Watertown to Have Net Zero Energy Schools

Architects showed the School Building Committee what it would take to make Watertown’s new elementary schools net zero — so the campus would generate enough energy to cover the electricity used to run the building. Watertown will be building two new elementary schools — at Cunniff and Hosmer — and school officials seek to make them not only green schools, but are looking at possibly making them net zero schools. October Drive Collecting Items for Food Pantries in Watertown

Items collected for the Watertown Community Foundation’s food drive in January. The Foundation is organizing another one in the month of October. The Watertown Community Foundation will once again organize a food drive to collect items for the two food pantries in town at a time when donations are typically down. Items are being collected at the Watertown Public Schools, as well as the Watertown Police Station and Watertown Free Public Library and several local businesses. Athenahealth Looking to Sell Arsenal on Charles, May Impact Partnership with Town

One of the largest employers in town and owner of the Arsenal on the Charles seeks to sell their headquarters property, but plans to stay in Watertown. The potential sale may impact a partnership athenahealth entered with the Town and a state agency. The Boston Globe reported that the health data tech company would like to sell the 29-acre former U.S. Army Arsenal property which it purchased from Harvard University in 2013. The article indicates that athena would like to sign a long-term lease with the new owners. “Since the change in our company ownership earlier this year, we at athenahealth have been striving to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality and sustainable health care for all,” the company said in a statement.
