NEW LOCATION: Final Summer Concert Features Country Band & National Farmers Market Week

Southbound Train will perform in the last Watertown Summer Concert of the year. NOTE: Wednesday’s rain will move the final Watertown Summer Concert indoors in the Watertown Free Public Library. Earlier, Town officials planned to hold it outside, but the decision was changed. Head down to Saltonstall Park Wednesday to see the last free summer concert of the year, and celebrate National Farmers Market Week at Watertown’s own market. The seven-piece country band Southbound Train will perform high energy, vocal-oriented songs, both past and present.

See the Detours Coming Up for the Common St. Project

Detours will be set up around the repaving project on Common Street. The work area (in yellow) also includes Katherine Road. The close roads are in red. The detours are shown in purple and the streets open only to local traffic are in lime green. Detours will be set up for a week in Watertown around the repaving area on Common Street.

Deadline for Choosing Electricity Plan Approaching for Watertown Residents

Town residents have received information about Watertown Electricity Choice in the mail, online and other modes, but many people have questions about the new electricity program. Monday, Aug. 12 is the deadline for Watertown residents to choose one of the new electricity plans being offered by the town as part of the Electricity Choice program. However, Watertown Energy Manager Ed Lewis stressed that residents can change their plans anytime, with no fee for changing. Lewis has been fielding calls, and doing informational sessions to answer resident’s questions about the Watertown’s electricity plan.

Police Log: Valuable Stolen from Gym Locker, Motorcycle Stolen

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests

July 26, 4:14 p.m.: Police responded to Main Street near Watertown Square for a man who was unresponsive behind the wheel. When they arrived they found the man slumped behind the wheel of a Ford Econoline van with the vehicle in reverse. When the awoke the man, police spoke to the driver and he admitted to consuming alcohol before driving. He attempted to perform field sobriety tests, but said he was too inebriated to do the tests.

Belmont Police Housing Arrestees in Watertown, Temporarily

The Watertown Police Station will not only house those arrested in town, but also the suspects taken into custody by the Belmont Police. Wicked Local reports that the housing of arrestees from Belmont in Watertown will take place during the renovation of the Belmont Police Station, which begins Aug. 4. While Watertown will host the Belmont arrestees, Belmont Police will still be responsible for feeding, and transporting those in custody to and from the Watertown Police Station, including court appearances. During the renovation in Belmont, the BPD will be temporarily housed on the property of the Belmont Water Department at 40 Woodland St.

Watertown High Grad Enlisting in U.S. Air Force

Watertown’s Brett Sutherland, center, poses with his parents Linda and Wayne after he was sworn in as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Watertown High School graduate Brett Sutherland is not the only member of the Class of 2019 to go join the military after graduation. A number are going into the Marines, including his cousin Max Bunnell, but Sutherland decided to go another direction and join the United States Air Force. As he was nearing the end of high school, Sutherland said that he did not really think about applying to college. “I never felt like school was for me,” he said.
