The sun shines down on the 2019 Faire on the Square, held behind Watertown’s Town Hall on Saturday. Hundreds of people joined the festivities at Watertown’s Faire on the Square on Saturday. Under sunny skies, the 2019 Faire on the Square featured entertainment from singers, acrobats and dance troupes. Dancers perform at Saturday’s Faire on the Square. Kids had plenty of activities, with several inflatable play structures, pony rides, face painting and clowns.

Watertown, Burlington Play a Thriller of a Football Game at Victory Field

Watertown senior Karim Monroe thrilled the Victory Field crowd with a kickoff return for a touchdown in the Raiders’ 21-20 loss to Burlington. The Raiders’ valiant comeback attempt against Burlington fell just short Friday night as Watertown dropped the game at Victory Field, 21-20. A fourth quarter touchdown pass from six yards from backup quarterback Will Dolan to junior fullback David Manoukian brought the game within one point, and Coach John Cacace decided to go for the two-point conversion and the lead. However, Burlington’s defense stopped sophomore running back Mason Andrade well short of the goal line. ICYMI: Burlington defeated Watertown 21-20 last night in a thriller to move to 3-0 on the season.

Oakley Country Club Taking Town to Court Over ZBA’s Ruling on Wall

Oakley Country Club is appealing the Zoning Board’s decision that ruled that the wall that went up near Oakley and Arden roads was built without proper permitting from the Town. The case was filed in the State Land Court. The case of the wall built by Oakley Country Club on the edge of their property will continue, after the club filed an appeal in state Land Court to try to overturn the Zoning Board of Appeals ruling that the wall was built without getting proper permits from the Town. The appeal was filed in Land Court on Sept. 25, and notice was sent to the Watertown Town Clerk’s office on Sept.

Residents Say Traffic, Speed is Rising on Their Street; Officials Say the Problem is Townwide

Residents of Lincoln Street went to the Traffic Commission to try to change the increasing traffic and speeding during rush hour on their street. Officials said the problem goes well beyond their block. Residents of a street off of one of Watertown’s main thoroughfares have seen an increase in traffic during rush hour, and say people are driving at dangerous speeds. They took their case to the Traffic Commission, which said the issue cannot be solved by making changes on one street and would push the problem to another road. Lincoln Street comes off Mt.

Watertown Firefighter Graduates from Boston Fire Academy

Firefighter Ryan Hoey graduated from the Boston Fire Department’s fire academy this week. He is shown with Watertown Fire Chief Bob Quinn. Watertown Fire Chief Bob Quinn announced that Firefighter Ryan Hoey graduated from the Boston Fire Department’s fire academy. “I wanted to let you know that today Firefighter Ryan Hoey graduated from the Boston Fire Department Regional Metro Fire Recruit Training Academy,” Quinn said. The academy was run by Boston Fire department to train new firefighters in the Metro Fire departments.

Watertown Looking into Creating Rental Assistance Program

Watertown officials will be exploring how the Town may create a rental assistance fund to help people who need help with security deposits in order to afford an apartment or other rental housing. The proposal came from the the Council’s Human Services subcommittee, which met more than a dozen times over the past year to look for ways to increase the amount of affordable housing in Watertown. The Council approved the recommendation to ask the Planning Department to draft a proposal for tenant-based rental assistance program, or programs, including how it could be appropriately funded and staffed. Councilor Tony Palomba, who chaired the Human Services Committee, said that Waltham has a rental assistance program. “The program is very successful in Waltham, and I am sure it will be successful in Watertown.”
