Historical Society Hosts Event About Famous Watertown Sculptor

The Historical Society of Watertown presents an evening about a famous Watertown sculptor led by former Sacred Heart Pastor Joseph Curran. The event is free. The Historical Society sent out the following announcement:

Presented by Father Joseph Curran Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472,  in the Local History Room – 2nd floor. Father Joseph Curran, former pastor of the Sacred Heart Church in Watertown’s East End, will give a lecture on Watertown sculptor Harriet Hosmer in the beautifully restored Local History Room of the public library. Father Curran, our foremost authority on sculptor Harriet Hosmer, will present a lecture on Harriet’s colorful life and her many works of art.

Forum This Week Focuses on the Opiates Crisis, Recovery and Prevention

The opioids crisis is a growing crisis, and the WATERtown Task Force on Substance Abuse will sponsor a forum about addiction and recovery in September. The number of opioid-related fatal and non-fatal overdose rates are higher thus far in 2016 compared to 2015, said Deborah Rosati, director of the Watertown Health Department. “Educating the entire community about this significant public health issue is critical,” Rosati said. “There will be information for everyone (at the event).” There will be speaker presentations as well as on our resource tables which will have flyers and brochures on proper prescription medication disposal, substance use prevention information for parents, naloxone information and vouchers, and intervention, treatment and recovery information.

Six Sent to Hospital With CO Poisoning at Watertown Condo Building

Six residents of a Watertown condominium building went to hospital Wednesday night because of a high levels of carbon monoxide in the building. 

Residents of 10 Riverside St. we’re evacuated after high levels of CO were detected about 8 p.m.

The call came into the Watertown Fire Department as a report of a smell of gases. When the firefighters arrived they quickly realized what was happening, said Deputy Fire Chief Rob Iannetta. “We went in with our CO meters and gas meters and immediately got an elevated reading,” Iannetta said. The cause was a faulty oil burner, Iannetta said.
