James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal–then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”
Armenian Museum of AmericaThe Komitas Quartet will be performing in an online concert hosted by the Armenian Museum of America. The following information was provided by the Armenian Museum of America:
The Armenian Museum of America recently announced its 11th Online Concert featuring an exclusive performance by the Komitas Quartet of Yerevan. The concert will be shown online on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m.
Founded in 1924, the Komitas Quartet is the oldest-established string quartet still performing today. The group is named after Komitas, who had a formidable impact on Armenian music at the turn of the 20th century.
Charlie BreitroseWatertown’s Victory Field will be closed on the weekend of Aug. 13 and 14, 2022. The Watertown Recreation Department announced that part of the Victory Field complex will be closed over the weekend. The Rec. Department provided the following announcement:
The Victory Artificial Turf Field is closed this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, August 13 & 14, because of field line painting in preparation for the fall season. The field hockey, football and soccer game fields will be completed and hopefully the logo if time allows. Thanks to the Parks Department of the DPW for scheduling and coordinating this event.

New Repertory Theatre (New Rep) is proud to be a part of the Watertown Arts Market on Saturday, Aug. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. at Arsenal Park. This annual outdoor event features nearly 100 area artists and cultural organizations, with a variety of activities and food options. It is free and open to the public.
New Rep’s booth will feature videos and photos of New Rep productions, information about upcoming shows, and will present short live performances at the bottom of every hour throughout the day. These will feature Fulani Haynes and Geraldine Barney, sharing a slice of the life-affirming, joyous performances for which New Rep is known, and a preview of coming attractions at New Rep this fall.
Throughout the day, members of the New Rep board and artistic team will be on hand to answer questions and share information about the company’s relaunch and exciting upcoming programming at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. New Rep will be located at booth #45.

The Watertown Recreation Parks Program will be hosting an exciting and fun filled doubleheader event on Friday, August 12 at our Victory Field Complex. Animal Craze (please use graphic) will have a petting zoo from 10:00am to 12:00pm, while Busy Bee will provide two water slides from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Four outstanding local students have been selected to receive scholarships from the Charles River Regional Chamber. In prior years the chamber has awarded scholarships to graduating seniors who reside or attend school in Newton and Needham. Newly added in 2021 was a third scholarship to a high school senior in Wellesley and in 2022 a fourth scholarship for a Watertown senior. NBC Universal, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Needham and Newton-Wellesley Hospital all provide underwriting support for this program. In a highly qualified and deserving pool of close to 50 applicants, the chamber’s Scholarship Committee has selected Chaerin Lee, Grace Campbell Maillet, Theresa Cabral and David Fils-Aime for this year’s awards.
