Comics: Small Saves Faces a New Role, See Why Trouble Got Her Name

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal–then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

DeMarco recently added “Here’s Trouble” to his cartooning lineup, inspired by drawings he did in the 1980s when he was in high school

Richard ‘Dick’ Greenough, Sr. Aged 91, died peacefully on Sep 17, 2021. Richard was born on October 15, 1929 to Richard and Mary Greenough. He grew up in Watertown and attended Watertown High School and Huntington Prep, where he made his mark as an outstanding football player. He met the love of his life and best friend, Gloria Anne Kelley, during high school in 1945. They married in 1948.

OBIT: Robert Fratto, 66, Watertown High Class of 1972, Master Gas & Pipefitter

Robert F. “Bob” Fratto, 66, of Stow, MA, and a longtime former Watertown, MA, resident, died Sunday, September 19, 2021 in Worcester. Born in Brighton and raised in Watertown, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Charlotte M. (Falbo) Fratto, and was graduate of Watertown High School Class of 1972. A member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Bob was a master gas and pipefitter, and licensed journeyman for sprinkler systems. He worked for other companies through the years, but most of his career was at Harvard University prior to retiring. Bob loved music, and enjoyed playing both the piano and the guitar, and in early years was a member and lead singer in a local band. Remembered as a homebody, he centered his life around his family and close friends, and was devoted to his dogs.

LETTER: Three Pests Threaten Watertown Trees

Watertown’s trees face three distinct invasive pest challenges this year. One, Pear Trellis Rust, is a fungus that has been significantly disfiguring the town’s ornamental pear trees. Another, Emerald Ash Borer, is a small beetle that causes the rapid death of ash trees. The third, Spotted Lantern Fly, is an emerging survival threat to a variety of trees, especially fruit trees.
