Watertown Elementary Schools Host 3rd Annual Crazy Color Fun Run

The third annual Crazy Color Fun Run is sponsored by the PTO organizations of the Hosmer, Cunniff and Lowell Schools in Watertown to raise money for our schools. All donations go toward academic and cultural enrichment activities at the elementary schools. This fun run features the addition of color four times throughout the race, with a color celebration at the finish line! All color is non-toxic and edible (although I wouldn’t recommend it!)

State Officials Raise Risk of West Nile Virus to High – See How to Prepare

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has notified the Watertown Health Department that due to the presence of human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) in the area, the risk level for West Nile Virus has been elevated to High. Mosquitoes in the area have tested positive for West Nile Virus, and personal protection against mosquito exposure has been advised for most of the summer. What can you do to protect yourself? Public Invited to Discuss Airplane Noise at Boston West Faire Skies Meeting

Boston West Fair Skies (BWFS) will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, Sept. 29 in Arlington. BWFS is fighting for a more equitable distribution of airplane noise. We are a citizens grassroots organization which includes Arlington, Belmont, Cambridge, Medford, Somerville, Watertown and Winchester – all communities affected by the increased airplane noise due to the implementation of 33L RNAV (using GPS) departures at Boston Logan Airport. The meeting location rotates to a different town each month.

Fundraiser for Sober Living Scholarship for Women Features a Psychic Medium

Maria Halvorsen, popular psychic medium,will headline an event at The Arlington Sons of Italy, on Friday, Oct. 7 from 7­-10:30 p.m. to bring messages of love, hope and faith and to raise funds for a scholarship to help women who lack the resources to enter sober housing following treatment for substance use disorder. Guests will also hear Maryann Frangules, director of MOAR (Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery) speak about the challenges those seeking addiction treatment face in Massachusetts. The night will also include music, performance art and an Italian buffet. The event is organized by Magnolia New Beginnings, a non-­profit that assists families dealing with Substance Use Disorder.

Fifth Annual Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry Walk on Saturday

On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) is hosting its fifth Annual Walk of Life. This fundraiser benefits ABMDR, an international non-profit organization that helps recruit bone marrow donors to match with patients suffering from life-threatening blood-related diseases. Due to their unique genetic makeup, people of Armenian descent worldwide have a higher percentage of finding a potential donor through the ABMDR.

The walk begins at 11 a.m. at the Armenian Cultural and Education Center (ACEC) at 47 Nichols Ave. and will end 2.2 miles later at the Faire on the Square at Saltonstall Park.
