Watertown Foundation Connects Older Residents to Local Arts & Entertainment Programs

Watertown’s older residents had many opportunities to engage in a variety of free,
enriching and engaging activities this fall thanks to the Marshall Home Fund. The group sent out the following information:

The MHF, established in Watertown 12 years ago, provides small grants to local organizations and agencies, in an effort make Watertown a more age friendly community. This fall, programs supported by the fund included workshops on theatrical production and fun, intergenerational events. Page to Stage: With funding from the MHF, New Repertory Theater’s Associate Artistic Director, Bridget Kathleen O’Leary, was able to offer a free 5-session workshop for residents 55+, focused on all aspects of directing and producing the play “Oleanna,” by David Mamet. Premiered in 1992, the play’s theme of sexual harassment made it well-suited to the kind of engaging, lively discussions O’Leary encourages among workshop participants.

6th Annual Watertown Tree Lighting Ceremony Coming to Watertown Square

The Watertown-Belmont Chamber of Commerce (WBCC), Rotary Club of Watertown, and the Town of Watertown are pleased to announce that the sixth annual Tree Lighting ceremony will be held on Friday, December 1 in Watertown Square. Organizers sent out the following information:

A reception will follow at the Watertown Savings Bank (WSB) main office in Watertown Square. Santa Claus will arrive to the Square by fire truck at 5:15 p.m.; the tree will be lit at 5:30 p.m.; and the reception to follow immediately after at WSB, where attendees will enjoy refreshments, holiday music, and of course visit with Santa Claus! Parking will be available at WSB after 5 p.m.

“We’re really excited for this year’s tree lighting, and to continue with this wonderful holiday tradition,” said WBCC Community Relations Liaison Paul Airasian. Once again this year, radio station 105.7 WROR will also be outside in the Square with giveaways, games, music and with a special guest of their own beginning at 4:30 p.m. Watertown Rotary will also have refreshments out on the Square.

Watertown Gallery’s New Show Features Work of Three Artists, Multiple Mediums

Room 83 Spring is pleased to present Border Realms featuring installations and assemblages by Lisa Olson, mixed-media sculpture by Amy Podmore, digital paintings by Wendy Seller. These three artists work with  images of the body and metaphor to capture and describe surreal situations and narratives. Lisa Olson’ Child Keeper series navigates danger. Letterpress descriptions and reliquary objects of un-named and head-redacted orphans are arranged into a black, white and sepia installation. It is a spookily realistic fiction.

Historical Society Event Features a Virtual Tour of Mount Auburn Cemetery

The Historical Society of Watertown will present a visual tour through Mount Auburn Cemetery. The Historical Society sent out the following information:

Tremedal Concert Features CD Release for Folk, Jazz Singer Claudia Schmidt

Tremedal Concerts presents Claudia Schmidt and a CD release concert. The musician originally from Michigan has recorded 19 albums of mostly original songs, exploring folk, blues, and jazz idioms featuring her acclaimed 12-string guitar and mountain
dulcimer playing, according to concert organizers. The Tremedal Concerts benefit the Watertown–El Salvador Sister City Project. Proceeds after expenses support the sister community of Nueva Esperanza, El Salvador, and regional projects in Chalatenango Province. The performance will be on October 28 at 8 p.m. at First Parish Unitarian Church
35 Church Street in Watertown.

Join in Artober Family Festival at the Mosesian Center for the Arts

Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown invites families to join the on Saturday for a new fall celebration of the arts. 

The Center, located in the Arsenal on the Charles (321 Arsenal St., Watertown) released the following information:

Join us on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for our exciting new Artober Family Festival! We’ll have Fall Themed Art Activities for ages 3+, Music & Movement Activities, a costume contest (come in costume!), a costume parade (weather permitting), a photobooth with theatrical costumes, and live music for all ages by Ben Rudnick on the MainStage from 10:15-11:00am (limited to capacity). Vote for Your Favorite Scarecrow in the Watertown Mall’s Halloween Contest

The Watertown Mall is hosting its 26th Annual Scarecrow Contest from now until Halloween, officials announced. Shoppers are invited to vote for their favorite scarecrow entry that will be on display for the duration of the contest! There are 12 creative scarecrows that were created and entered by local classes, businesses and families. Scarecrows are displayed in the back hallway of the Watertown Mall, 550 Arsenal St., Watertown, from October 16, 2017 through October 31, 2017. Make sure you cast your vote to insure that your favorite scarecrow is a winner!
