Explore a Graphic Novel at a Free Event at the Church of the Good Shepherd

Head to the Church of the Good Shepherd for an evening of learning about art and good conversation. This Friday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m., Rick Baggio will lead an exploration of “Giotto’s 4 Dimensional Graphic Novel: The Scrovegni Chapel.” We’ll enjoy nibblies and fellowship while hearing and seeing Rick’s presentation about this fascinating masterpiece of the Renaissance. All are welcome at this free event, which will be in the sanctuary. Church of the Good Shepherd is at 9 Russell Ave.

Head to Gore Place for Some Snowshoeing with Live Well Watertown

Live Well Watertown is hosting a free snowshoeing event on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

The group sent out the following information:

If there is snow on the ground, we’ll head out to the trails for some easy and enjoyable snowshoeing. If not, participants will be guided through the Gore Estate to learn about the history of farming in early New England, compared to the modern operation of the farm today. Participants should arrive between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m., dress comfortably for the weather, and be prepared to walk an extensive portion of the property (if taking the tour). First-time snowshoers will receive basic instruction and safety tips.

Eliza Dushku’s ‘Dear Albania’ Documentary Airing on WGBH Thursday

If you have not caught Eliza Dushku’s documentary film about the trip to her ancestral homeland of Albania, WGBH will air it Thursday night. 

The hour-long film, Dear Albania, will air at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 on Channel 2 in Boston. The Watertown-native made the film with her brother Nate. Dushku spoke with Watertown News about her film, other project and her work to help those fighting addiction in early January when Dear Albania debuted on PBS. Read the piece by clicking here.

Arsenal Center for the Arts Names Roberta Miller New Executive Director

The Arsenal Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the permanent appointment of Watertown native Roberta Miller to its Executive Director Position. Miller has overseen the center on an interim basis since September and previously served as a founding board member/co-chair of the $6 million capital campaign that established the Arsenal Center for the Arts. “The search attracted dozens of strong candidates from throughout the Northeast. In our process of interviewing and screening, Roberta rose to the top of the field with her practical, inclusive, innovative, and entrepreneurial leadership style,” said Susan Centofanti, Arsenal Center Board President. “Her prior work has been in supporting organizational and cultural change in organizations and municipalities.
