Thursday’s Concert Canceled, See the Revamped Watertown Summer Concert Schedule

The Summer Concerts at Saltonstall Park have some new acts, along with some concerts that have been rescheduled. The concert scheduled for Aug. 19, featuring Band Land Brass Band, has been postponed to a date to be determined. The Band from U.N.C.L.E., which is “on a secret mission to bring 50s-60s rock & roll, garage rock and girl group/soul music to the masses,” plays on Saturday, Aug.

Watertown Cultural Council Seeks Community Input Through Online Survey

The Watertown Cultural Council seeks input from the community through an online survey, which is open through the end of September. The eight item survey includes questions about what types of arts and cultural activities people are interested in and how many cultural events they attended pre-pandemic, among others. The WCC provided the following introduction to the survey:

The Watertown Cultural Council is a local agency underwritten by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. WCC supports Arts, Humanities and Interpretive Sciences projects for the enrichment of the entire Watertown community. Your participation in this survey will help the WCC fulfill its mission of funding arts and culture experiences for all the people in Watertown.

Watertown Arts Market Coming Saturday With Over 70 Tables, Music & More

The wealth of arts and culture that Watertown has to offer will be celebrated this weekend when dozens of artists, musicians, authors and others gather together. The first ever Watertown Arts Market will take place Saturday, Aug. 21, at Arsenal Park. More than 70 artists, craftspeople and others will attend the event, said Jacqueline Dentino, chair of the Watertown Arts Market Committee. The Arts Market will take over Arsenal Park from noon to 5 p.m. and will be similar to a farmers market.

Watertown Cultural Council Seeks Grant Proposals for 2021-22, Application Accepted Starting in September

The Watertown Cultural Council (WCC) seeks new grant proposals from organization, schools, and individuals who wish to provide arts, humanities and interpretive science programs for the Watertown community in 2021-22. Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and interpretive science projects are due on the Mass Council website by October 15, 2021 at 11:59 EST. Application forms and more information are available online beginning September 1 at www.massculturalcouncil.org. The WCC supports both in-person and virtual programming in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences for the Watertown community — including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, or performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal–then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.” DeMarco recently added “Here’s Trouble” to his cartooning lineup, inspired by drawings he did in the 1980s when he was in high school.

See the Updated Watertown Summer Concert Schedule, New Band Added

Southbound TrainSouthbound Train will perform at Watertown’s Saltonstall Concert Series on Aug. 18 with free dance lesson beforehand. Due to some weather cancellations, a number of Watertown summer concerts have been rescheduled and the revamped lineup includes two weeks when the Town will host a pair of performances, including a new act. The Compaq Big Band was moved from early August to Aug. 13.

Big Band Will Play Rescheduled Concert This Week at Saltonstall Park

The Compaq Big Band will be playing in Watertown on Friday, Aug. 13. The original date was postponed due to rain. The Town of Watertown sent out the following statement:

“Please join us at the 2021 Saltonstall Park Concert Series on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 6:30-8 p.m. at 149 Main Street in Watertown. There will be free music featuring the 19-piece Compaq Big Band Concert at 6:30pm.”
