Belmont-Watertown Church Spring Concert to Support New England Justice for Our Neighbors

Belmont-Watertown United Methodist Church is proud to present our annual Spring concert to support New England Justice For Our Neighbors (NEJFON), an organization that provides free expert legal advice to low- and no-income immigrants.   

A delightful program featuring our music director, Yilin You and her outstanding musician friends, will include music that ranges from classical to jazz, in forms of violin/piano duo, brass ensemble, and piano four-hands. Please join us in our beautiful sanctuary in Belmont for an evening of music followed by refreshments in the parlor. Five Affordable Apartments Available in Watertown Square

The City of Watertown sent out the following announcement:

With the new 166 Main Street development expected to open in May 2024, the developer just launched marketing for the five affordable apartments. Two of the units will be rented to households with incomes at or below 65% of area median income and three units will be rented to households with incomes at or below 80% of area median income. There is an information session on March 19, an application deadline of April 16, and a lottery on April 30. See more detail about this development, as well as the application form. See How Presidents Day Will Impact City Facilities, Trash Pickup

Monday is Presidents Day, and it will impact Watertown City Hall, the Library and Senior Center, as well as trash and recycling collection all week. The City of Watertown provided the following announcement:

Watertown City Hall, Senior Center, Department of Public Works Office, and Watertown Free Public Library, will be closed on Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 19, 2024. Please note that there is a one day delay for trash and recycling pickup this week.

Small Saves is a Pillar of Strength in This Week’s Cartoon

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal – then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

Nearly one-in-seven Watertown residents qualify for government food programs, but only about half have signed up for the assistance. Many more people living in town do not qualify for the programs, for one reason or another, despite being in a low-income household. And putting more stress on the situation is the increasing cost of housing in town.

2024 Watertown Memorial Day Parade Registration Now Open

Watertown’s Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024, and organizations can now register to take part in the annual procession. The Watertown Veterans Services Office wrote: “Join with members of your company, organization, neighborhood, friends, and family to participate in the parade!” Those interested in participating must fill out the registration (see below), which must be submitted no later than April 29, 2024. Fill out the registration form and return it marked ‘Memorial Day Parade Registration’ to: The City of Watertown, Veteran’s Services, 149 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or email it to: Pgeorge@watertown-ma.gov
