Free Bike Helmets Being Given Out at Little League Opening Day

Watertown’s Little League baseball and softball teams line the diamond at Casey Park on opening day. The following information was provided by the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee:

As part of its Project KidSafe campaign, the Boston personal injury law firm of Breakstone, White & Gluck recently donated 100 children’s bicycle helmets to the Watertown Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee. The helmets were given away to children at Watertown Little League Opening Day, April 27, 2019. Since 2013, Breakstone, White & Gluck and its Project KidSafe campaign have given away more than 25,000 bicycle helmets to children across Massachusetts. To reach children who need a helmet, Breakstone, White & Gluck has partnered with more than 40 organizations, police departments and bicycle committees.

Latest Designs for Victory Field Track, Courts to be Discussed at Upcoming Meeting

Last summer, the committee approved recommendations for the project, which were approved by the Town Council on Aug.

Film and Discussion on Gender Identity to be Hosted by Watertown Group

On Tuesday, April 30, World in Watertown will present the National Geographic documentary entitled Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric, followed by a panel discussion of issues related to gender identity. The program will be held in the Watertown Savings Bank Room of the Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main St. It will begin with pizza promptly at 6:00 p.m.

The program is free, and the public is warmly invited to attend. In this widely acclaimed film, “Katie Couric sets out across America to meet with leading scientists, physicians, and experts to answer questions about gender and gender identity. She speaks with everyday people who find their lives and bodies on the front line of a changing world.

Pay Tribute to Your Favorite Teacher Through the Watertown Community Foundation

The Watertown Community Foundation is offering the opportunity to pay tribute to your favorite teacher. The Teacher Tribute Program is a special way to honor and thank special teachers, educators, staff members, teams, departments, or administrators, according to the WCF. The program originated with the Watertown Education Foundation, but with the merging of the groups it has been taken over by the Community Foundation. “Since 1992 your generous contributions have helped raise thousands of dollars for educational grants to teachers!” the WCF announced.

Easter Tradition Continues at Perkins School for the Blind

Hundreds of children and extended family members joined in on the 7th Annual Beeping Egg Hunt at Perkins School for the Blind on Saturday, April 6th. Three hundred brightly-colored, plastic eggs that emit high-pitched beeps were placed around the central playground on Perkins’ Watertown Campus. The Beeping Egg Hunt is a specialized event for children with visual impairments and their families. Each year it attracts students enrolled in both day and residential programs at Perkins, as well as other area families.

Oakley Country Club Responds to Criticism of New Wall, Drainage Project

The wall that went up near Oakley and Arden roads. Neighbors are upset that it was built without informing them, and say it has caused flooding on some properties. A project that erected a wall at the back of Oakley Country Club, and facing a nearby roadway, has drawn criticism from neighbors for pouring water into the area after storms. Oakley Country Club officials said that the project, when complete, will actually remove most of the runoff from that part of the golf course. Jack Bartley, president of Oakley Country Club, said he believes the project will benefit the neighbors, but added that the club could have handled the project better. “We are committed to work with neighbors,” Bartley said.
