Nominations Being Accepted for Watertown Historical Preservation Awards

The Watertown Historic Commission seeks nominations for the 2018 Historical Preservation Awards. 

The Watertown Historical Commission Preservation Awards can be awarded to any individual, organization or project that has contributed to the preservation or recognition of Watertown’s Historic resources. There are seven award categories which a nominee may be considered. The completed form is due in the Historical Commission office by April 3, 2018. Categories
1) The Richard E. Mastrangelo Memorial Award is given to any individual elected or employed by the Town of Watertown who has actively been a champion in supporting the preservation of a Historical Resource. 2) The Citizenship Award is given to any individual who has taken a leadership role in the effort to educate the community-at-large about local historical preservation issues or concerns.

Watertown Recreation Offering February Vacation, Cops & Rec Soccer Programs

Join the Watertown Recreation for some upcoming programs, including playing futsal – indoor soccer – with the Watertown  Police and the February Vacation Program. February Vacation Program
Description: Children will be divided into groups by grades at the start of the program. They will participate in activities such as basketball, whiffle ball, floor hockey and indoor soccer, etc. In addition, there will be arts and crafts, board games, movies and various special events. Participants should bring a bag lunch, snack and drink.

Watertown Church Hosts Course for Caregivers of Those with Mental, Physical Illness

A Watertown church announced it will host a course presented by Springwell called “Powerful Tools for Caregivers.” Church of the Good Shepherd will be hosting a course offered by Springwell called “Powerful Tools for Caregivers.” This is a 6-part course for anyone who is a caregiver to a relative or friend: an elder, a spouse, a child or teen with mental or physical illness, etc. The course will run on Monday nights for 6 consecutive weeks, starting, and will be held at CGS (9 Russell Ave. in Watertown).

See How to Get Free Vet Care for Low-Income Pet Owners

Those struggling to pay for vet care for their pets can get free services thanks to a program offered through a partnership between a statewide organization, a local veterinarian and Watertown Animal Control. 

Watertown Animal Control sent out the following announcement:

Massachusetts Animal Fund, Pet Haven Animal Hospital and Watertown Animal Control are hosting the event on March 10th. Free spay/neuter services are available to low-income pet owners as well as low cost rabies shot and microchips. If interested call the Animal Fund 617-626-1740.

Family Support Group for Those with Loved Ones with Mental Illness

Mental Health Support Group: NAMI Family Support Group is a free, structured, confidential peer-led support group for family members, caregivers and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness.  
A support group will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 7:30 – 9 pm at the Newton Wellesley Hospital, at 2014 Washington St, Newton, MA 02462, in the Bowles Conference Center on the second floor of the main building. This is organized by the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).
