Registration Now Open for Boys & Girls Club Summer Programs

The Watertown Boys & Girls Club has summer camp and swim programs coming up, and you can register now. 

The Boys and Girls Club sent out the following information:

Summer Adventure is a camp program for members ages 7-12 (see the brochure here). The program offers youth a safe environment to build new skills, foster new friendships, learn self-reliance, and become more confident all while having fun and being active in the great outdoors! To register, please fill out the registration form (click here) and drop it off at the Club’s Front Desk along with a $50 deposit to hold your child’s place for each registered week. You must be a Watertown Boys & Girls Club Member to attend. A Summer Membership can be obtained for $10 (valid from 7/1/16 to 8/31/16).

WZLX’s Karlson & McKenzie Show Coming to Clean Up Park in Watertown

The Karlson and McKenzie morning radio show will honor the One Boston Day by organizing “The Amazing Waste Challenge” in Watertown and challenges listeners to come out to take part. 

The WZLX radio show will participate in the clean-up effort at Arsenal Park in Watertown on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

The public and local businesses are invited to meet the Karlson and McKenzie Show personalities and join them in picking up the trash that litters Arsenal Park. The Halfway Café will be providing a free lunch to all participants. In 2015, The Karlson and McKenzie Show and its listeners helped clean up Filippello Park in Watertown.

Register Now for the Rec Department’s Camp Pequossette Summer Camp

The Watertown Recreation Department announced it is offering the Pequossette Summer Program to children who are entering grades 1 through 8 in the fall of 2016. The program consists of seven individual weeks from June 27 through August 12, 2016 at the Watertown Middle School at 68 Waverley Avenue in Watertown. The program will operate Monday through Friday from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm, except for Monday, July 4th. We offer an early drop off from 7:30 am to 8:45 am and an extended day program from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The Middle School and Moxley Playground which includes a large field space, playground area, basketball court, tennis court and a multi-purpose court afford the Recreation Department the opportunity to offer a wide range of activities to entertain the children.

Watertown Photographer’s Book Captures the ‘Aftermath’ of the Boston Marathon Bombings

Watertown photographer Joshua Touster’s has shot a wide variety of subjects, but his latest project literally came to his doorstep on April 19, 2013 when he found his hometown was the center of a manhunt for the terrorist who bombed the Boston Marathon. The book, “Aftermath: The Boston Marathon Bombings” features scenes from Watertown during the lockdown, photos from the scene of the shootout, commemorations and memorials, the 2014 and 2015 Marathons and the 2013 Red Sox World Series Championship Parade. Touster, who has an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, has shot all kinds of events and people. He spent seven weeks on tour with Michael Jackson, captured seasons of the New England Patriots, L.A. Lakers and Boston Red Sox, and documented the Occupy movement and the world of horse racing at Suffolk Downs and Saratoga Race Track. “I don’t just sit in a chair thinking of projects.

Watertown Boys and Girls Club Has Extra Hours for Half Days, Spring Break

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will be open from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 to Friday, April 15 to reflect the half-days of school in Watertown, the club announced. Watertown Boys & Girls Club will be open during the week of April Vacation (Tuesday, April 19 to Friday, April 22) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Club will be closed in observance of Patriot’s Day on Monday, April 18. The Club will be closed on Saturday, April 23 and swim lessons and family swim are cancelled for that day. Watertown Health Department Hosting Rabies Vaccination Clinic

Come get your cat or dog vaccinated for rabies at a clinic being held at Town Hall. The Watertown Health Department Rabies Vaccination Clinic will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016. It will be held in Watertown Town Hall on the Lower Level. The fee is $10. Cats in carriers will be vaccinated from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Dogs on Leash will be vaccinated to 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Microchipping will also be available for an additional $10.
