OBIT: Eileen Brescia, 91, Beloved Grandmother Who Loved Cooking, Baking

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of St. Patrick, Watertown on Wednesday, Nov, 9, 2016 for Eileen M. (Glennon) Brescia at 9 a.m.

Mrs. Brescia, a daughter of the late William and Madeline (Loewen) Glennon passed away in the Katherine Daniels Nursing Facility in Framingham on Wednesday morning. She was 91. Born in Boston, she grew up in Jamaica Plain, graduating from high school in Boston. She married Len in 1948, moved to Watertown and was married for 58 years.

Jack Brady of Watertown passed away unexpectedly from natural causes, at his residence on Oct. 28. Jack was the son of John Brady and Bernice Comeau Brady and the brother of Charles Brady of Waterbury Center, Vt., Donna Brady Rollo of Nashville, Tenn., and the late Robert Brady. He also leaves behind two nephews and two nieces (James Brady Thacker of Nashville, Tenn.; Sean Oakes of Seabrook, N.H.; Kate Cosgriff of Minneapolis and Heather Cosgriff of Piermont, N.Y. – his beloved aunts and uncles Norbert Comeau, Lorraine Lawn, and Muriel Chapman of Marshfield – all of his Harrington and Comeau cousins and special long-time friends Richard and Marie Volleman and their daughters Lee, Rachel, and Michelle. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday October 11, 2016 in St. Patrick Church, Watertown at 9 a.m. for Mary C. (O’Connell) Bloomer. Mrs. Bloomer, a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (McGovern) O’Connell was born in Boston. She passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday October 6, 2016, at the age of 83. Mary was the loving wife of the late Harold J. Bloomer, who passed away at an early age of 54 in 1980.

OBIT: Marvin Mitchell, 94, Respected Scientist, Served on Watertown Boards

Dr. Marvin Mitchell, 94, of Watertown died at home on Friday, Sept. 29.  A respected scientist who loved oil painting, vegetable gardening, and running, he was down to earth, interested in others, and more likely to arrive at work in sneakers and a hoodie than a white coat. 

He continued to publish scientific papers into his last year, and was still at his lab just two weeks before his death. He was loved by all those who knew him, family, friends, and co-workers. Mitchell was born in 1922 in Toledo Ohio. His parents and older sister Shirley  (who had a successful career as a radio and TV actress) were immigrants from Poland, Jews escaping the Russian Civil War.

OBIT: Robert J. Cabral, 54, Watertown Resident Who Worked for Newton DPW

Robert J. Cabral, of Watertown, a Newton Public Works employee, died suddenly on Sept. 13, 2016, at the age of 54. He leaves behind a wife, three daughters, four brothers and one sister, and many nieces and nephews. Cabral died last week while working for the Newton Public Works Department, according to a WHDH Channel 7 story. He worked for the City of Newton for 29 years.

Francis H. “Fran” McCarran, Jr., 92, of Watertown passed away peacefully at home on Sunday August 21, 2016. Fran and his wife, Helen F. (Cronin) McCarran enjoyed almost 69 years of love, fun and family together. Helen will forever cherish his nightly “Good night my love, I love you thank you for taking such good care of me.” He is also survived by his dear brother, Paul J. McCarran, who’s nightly phone call to discuss the Red Sox and always an “I Love You” meant the world to Fran. They were blessed with five children Francis H. McCarran III and his wife Joanne, William J. McCarran and his wife Lorraine, Linda M.
