Jan. 9, 5:10 p.m.: Target security spotted a man they recognized from previous incidents back in the store with a juvenile. The juvenile took clothing off the shelves and the pair walked toward the registers and put the items in a Target shopping bag. They had $25 in merchandise.
A thief struck a Watertown church, stealing the money collected during a recent service to help inner-city parishes. The Watertown Police sent out the following announcement:
The Watertown Police Department is seeking information related to a larceny that occurred at Saint Patrick’s Church, located at 212 Main St. On Sunday, January 15, 2017, between the hours of 11:20-11:40 a.m., an unknown person(s) entered the Sacristy Room of the church and took a bag containing the collection offering from the 10 a.m. church service. The collection was to aid inner-city church parishes. Anyone with any information is asked to contact:

Jan., 2 5:40 a.m.: A man was spotted sleeping in his vehicle in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven in Coolidge Square. Police officers found a black Nissan SUV with its engine running in the parking lot and a man reclined in the driver’s seat who appeared to be asleep. Officers awoke the man and detected signs of intoxication when they spoke with him. The man admitted to drinking alcohol before driving .
Effective 6 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 7, the Town of Watertown is under a snow emergency, the Superintendent of Public Works declared. The Watertown Police sent out the following announcement:
On street parking is now banned, any motor vehicle left on the street will be subject to towing. Please assist the public works department by not parking on the street and allowing the public works vehicles full access to clear the streets. We would appreciate your assistance by clearing any snow from fire hydrants and catch basins in your area.

I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season. As we welcome winter, and progress into the season, I felt it was an appropriate time to inform you of some important winter fire safety topics. Please promptly dispose of your Christmas trees. A dried out tree can ignite very easily and spread very quickly. Even if you have been watering your tree well, cut trees dry out fast.

Dec. 31, 1:12 p.m.: Police received a call about a man sleeping in his car and officers responded to check on his well being. They found the man in his car asleep at the wheel and he had open beer bottles, including one in the cup holder of the center console. Police awoke the man and performed field sobriety tests, and he passed all of them.
The Watertown Police Department will collect children’s clothing as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Donations of like-new children’s items will be accepted at the Watertown Police Station, 552 Main St., Watertown, from rom Jan. 9 to 16. The items will be given to Cradles to Crayons, which will give them to children ages 0-12 who are living in homeless or low-income situations to use at school. They seek winter coats (girls and boys size infant to 18/20 or adult medium), winter boots (boys and girls size infant, child 0-13 and adult 1-10) and other winter clothing (newborn, child size 18/20 or adult medium).

Dec. 22, 7:25 p.m.: Security at Home Depot spotted a man they recognized from previous shoplifting incidents in the store. He went to the power tools section and took a Rigid hammer drill and tried to leave without paying. The drill was worth $279.
