Feb. 24, 1:48 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Arsenal Street in the early hours of Feb. 24 noticed an unoccupied vehicle puled up next to a dumpster. When he investigated he found two men digging around in a dumpster.
The American Red Cross, Metro Massachusetts unit, will visit Watertown on Saturday, March 11 as part of its Home Fire Campaign to teach people how to be prepared for home fires and to install smoke alarms where needed. Seven times a day someone in this country dies in a home fire. Countless others suffer injuries. To combat these tragic statistics, the Red Cross has launched a nationwide campaign to reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to home fires by 25 percent. The Home Fire Campaign is happening all over the country and involves Red Cross workers joining with local fire departments and community groups to visit neighborhoods at high risk for fires.

Feb. 17, 4:40 p.m.: Police stopped a vehicle on Pleasant Street for crossing over marked lanes, and having improper inspection. When police spoke to the woman they discovered she had an arrest warrant in her name. The 44-year-old Newton woman was arrested on the warrant from Brookline District Court for traffic offenses.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Chad Kirby, 36, of Quincy, was arraigned today in Newton District Court and charged with assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Daniel Crane ordered the defendant held without bail pending a 58A dangerousness hearing and to undergo a mental health evaluation. The next scheduled hearing in this case is Monday, March 6. On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Newton Police responded to a report of a stabbing that took place on Watertown Street in Newton. Upon arrival authorities observed the victim, a 53-year-old Watertown man, bleeding from a head wound.

Feb. 8, 6:50 p.m.: Security observed a woman try to walk out of Target with a hand basket full of unpaid merchandise. When security stopped her, they found she was also holding women’s clothing and a handbag. She also had six Fitbits and a pedometer.
A man suffered injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Watertown on Tuesday night. The incident occurred on the 500 block of Mt. Auburn Street at about 8:15 p.m.
The man went to Mass General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. Police are investigating the incident.

Jan. 31, 6:10 p.m.: A witness reported seeing a man walking up to vehicles in the parking lot behind the Watertown Free Public Library and trying to open their doors. Police found a man fitting the description of the suspect in the library and spoke with him. The suspect said he thought it was his friend’s car and when he opened the door there was someone inside.
After a simple ceremony, which included a priest’s blessing, the call went out from the Watertown Fire Headquarters, “Medic 1 now is service.” While the celebration was a quiet one, but the change is a major one for the Watertown Fire Department and the people of the town. For the first time, paramedic services will be provided by Watertown firefighters in ambulances based in Watertown. This will mean quicker response times to medical emergencies because private companies would often send ambulances based in surrounding communities to cover calls in Watertown. The town will also be able to collect fees charged for ambulance service, which had gone to the ambulance companies.
