Police Log: Woman Steals Over $1,700 in Items from Victoria Secret and More

Feb. 9, 5:35 a.m.: An officer ran the registration of a car on Mt. Auburn Street and discovered the owner had a suspended license and a warrant. The 42-year-old Brockton man was arrested for driving with a suspended license – a subsequent offense, and a warrant from Chelsea District Court.

Watertown Police, Firefighters Get Medals at White House

Seven Watertown first responders who put their lives on the line during the shootout with the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects received the nation’s ultimate honor Wednesday. Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder awarded the Medal of Valor to five Watertown Police officers and two Watertown Firefighters at a ceremony at the White House on Wednesday, according to an Associated Press report. “You’re a rare breed,” Biden said to the recipients. “You’re all crazy. Drug Task Force Gets Suspect, But Not on Drug Charges

Members of a regional drug task force arrested a man they suspected of being involved in a drug deal, but the charges were not for possession of drugs. 

On Jan. 30 at around 4 p.m. members of the Middlesex County Drug Task Force were in Watertown on an investigation. “Officers were on Thayer Road where they observed an exchange between two individuals who were known to the officers,” said Watertown Police Lt. Michael Lawn. When officers approached, a suspect identified as Thomas McDonough ran away. “They observed McDonough reaching into a snow bank,” Lawn said.

Jan. 19, 1:56 p.m.: An officer served a warrant out of Middlesex Superior Court for probation violation, and arrested a 29-year-old Watertown man. Jan. 20, 3:32 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Melendy Avenue spotted a car stopped with its hazard lights on.

Man Hole Cover Blown Off on Galen Street, Power Out in Area

A man hole cover was blown off by a fire on Galen Street near Morse Street on Saturday afternoon.A fire was reported in the manhole. The Watertown Fire Department was called and looked for possible extension of flames into the basements nearby homes but did not find any fire in the homes. A witness reported seeing flames coming out of the manhole, which is located near the Newtown House of Pizza. The incident also took out power on parts of Galen Street, including the lights at Galen Street and Nonantum Road and Galen Street and Morse Street. NStar and National Grid have been called, but could take an hour or more according to scanner reports.
