With the opening of school just over a month away, Superintendent Dede Galdston said the number of elementary school students is expected to be more than 100 higher than last year.

The new Watertown High School will welcome students for the beginning of School in September, and the public will be able to take a look around before the first day of classes.
The School Committee approved the hiring of the interim Director of Student Services, who will oversee the special education program in the Watertown Public Schools, and also created a subcommittee focused on Student Services that will look at the district’s special education program.
Watertown will be brimming with arts activities on Aug. 8, 2026. The day begins with the annual Watertown Arts Market at Arsenal Park, featuring more than 100 artists, music, performances, kids’ activities and food for sale. The Watertown Mall, located at 550 Arsenal Street, Watertown, will be hosting Wayne Martin Puppets on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Wayne will be putting on three shows at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
The MCAS scores at Watertown Middle School and Watertown High School showed both improvements and drops from prior years, as well as compared to the state average. The School Committee heard the report last week, and members were interested in what is being done to improve Watertown’s scores.

Students at Watertown High School have found external support as they utilize robots to improve skills in science and engineering. The Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer, recently awarded a one-time $5,000 grant to Watertown High Robotics Team 2423 to support their FIRST Robotics activities and encourage local students who participate in the program.
