Watertown’s Eileen Ryan was one of 147 women from across Massachusetts to be nominated for the Commonwealth Heroine Award. She was nominated by State Sen. Will Brownsberger. Watertown High School students, alumni, and parents of students who took part in the Armenian language program urged School officials to bolster the program for fear of losing the classes that are more than just about learning a language.

David Barth did not take the most direct route to becoming Perkins School for the Blind’s President and CEO, but he told Watertown News that the work helping some of the most vulnerable children get the education, services, and rights that they deserve is something he has done during his whole career.

City officials have learned what it’s like to renovate a 100+ year old building, and the unwanted surprises that come with it. On Tuesday night, the City Council approved a $373,000 budget transfer to cover the cost of unexpected additional repairs, as well as to insulate the Parker Annex.

Ashland kept Watertown off the board for nearly all of the first quarter at Victory Field on Tuesday, but by the time the quarter ended the Raiders had all the lead they would need to win the MIAA Div. 3 Round of 16 field hockey game. The final score was 7-0.

Watertown actor, Janis Greim Hudson, stars in Moonbox Productions upcoming production of Harvey Fierstein’s Tony-Award-winning play Torch Song, directed by Allison Olivia Choat. Torch Song opens Dec. 2 and runs through Dec. 23 at the BCA Calderwood Pavilion – Roberts Theater.
The Watertown Recreation Department announced that signups for the 2022-23 Watertown Snow Shoveling Program. Students can sign up to help an older resident, and Watertown seniors can sign up to have their property shoveled. The Rec Department will throw a pizza party for last year’s participants.

Kicking off at 6 p.m., guests will enjoy passed apps and a welcome cocktail followed by a seated four-course meal paired with Westward’s selection of single malt, Oregon-based whiskeys. Tickets cost $70 and can be purchased HERE.
On Tuesday, Massachusetts voters will choose several new statewide officers, including governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, and have four ballot questions to consider. Locally, candidates for the State House and other offices are running unopposed.
