Watertown’s Tremedal Concert Series Holding Farewell Concert

Kallet, Epstein & Cicone will perform in the Farewell Concert for the Tremedal Concert Series. After more than three decades the Watertown-based Tremedal Concert Series will hold one final, farewell concert. For 32 years the Watertown/El Salvador sister city project presented folk concerts at FirstParish Unitarian Church of Watertown. “All proceeds benefited our El Salvadoran sister city Nueva Esperanza (New Hope). Funds supported many villager projects including truck repairs; doors, windows and rain barrels for new homes; and maintaining adequate medical supplies,” Tremedal’s announcement said.

New Rep Theatre Presents New Dance/Theater Work & Funk Band

RootsUprisingRootsUprising will perform “Reconsidering” at the New Rep Theatre. New Repertory Theatre (New Rep) is proud to present Reconsidering, a new dance/theater work, on Friday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday October 1 at 3:00 p.m., in the Black Box Theater at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. Reconsidering, presented in partnership with RootsUprising and Theater for the People, is an embodied discussion of the intersectional experience of women of color through both their spatial and temporal circumstances. The evening of sharing includes six dancing texts from RootsUprising’s repertoire, including the premier of three new works, Entangled Gaze, So Noted and Rooted We Are. 

RootsUprising’s Artistic Director Nailah Randall-Bellinger describes her work as “text in motion.” She says: “Reconsidering is the process of dismantling fed beliefs, truths and distorted images of who we really are as women of color in an oppressive social construct.”

Founded in 1998, RootsUprising is an intergenerational motion art collective, composed of = dancers and wordsmiths, with its core ensemble comprised of six women of color.

Folk Song Society of Greater Boston Presenting Concert in Watertown

Windborne will be performing in Watertown on Sept. 17. The following announcement was provided by the Folk Song Society of Greater Boston:

The Folk Song Society of Greater Boston is thrilled to present the highly-acclaimed vocal group, Windborne, in a live concert in Watertown on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. at the First Parish of Watertown,  35 Church Street, Watertown, MA. There will be a $20 cash general admission, and all children 17 and under are free.

Watertown Gallery Invites People to GAZE at Works of More Than 20 Artists

Storefront Art Projects announced its latest exhibit — GAZE curated by Jerry Russo. The Watertown gallery sent out the following information:

During the pandemic, photographer and Gaze curator, Jerry Russo  Zoom interviewed over 240 photographers, painters, sculptors, writers, poets, gallery owners, film and video creators, art therapists, and tattoo artists from all over the world. He asked what it was like for them living and working in the time of Covid. In GAZE, Jerry presents a multimedia survey of artwork by 22 artists.  

He says, “The directed gaze is as unsettling as it is tempting when we see into the eyes of strangers. A gaze can invite, insinuate, and reveal, and it can also contemplate, challenge and conceal.

Watertown Actor Appearing in Play at Boston Center for the Arts

Janis Hudson will appear in “The Good Deli” at the Boston Center for the Arts Plaza. The following information was provided by Moonbox Productions:

Watertown actor, Janis Greim Hudson, will star in Moonbox Productions upcoming production of the original play The Good Deli, written by local playwright, Kevin Cirone. The play opens at the Boston Center for the Arts Plaza Theatre on September 15th and runs through October 2nd. Visual and Performing Arts Classes

Registration has opened for fall classes for youth and adults in visual and performing arts at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. Offsite arts education programming also continues into the fall, and onsite studio space is newly available for weekly use by local artists. The arts center’s largest educational offering in over two years includes thirty performing and visual arts classes for children, teens, and adults.

The Armenian Museum of America recently announced its 11th Online Concert featuring an exclusive performance by the Komitas Quartet of Yerevan. The concert will be shown online on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 1 p.m.

Founded in 1924, the Komitas Quartet is the oldest-established string quartet still performing today. The group is named after Komitas, who had a formidable impact on Armenian music at the turn of the 20th century.
