15 Watertown High School Athletes Make Fall II & Spring Middlesex All-Stars

More than a dozen Raiders were chosen among the best in the Middlesex League in 2021. The pandemic created some strange seasons for some sports. Football was moved to Fall II, in the early part of 2021, and the wrestling season was moved from the Winter Sports Season to the Spring. Fifteen Watertown High School athletes made the Middlesex All-Stars in eight sports. Fall II All-Stars

Watertown Baseball Team’s Tournament Run Ends, Lacrosse & Track Also in Postseason

The Watertown High School baseball team made the most of the return of the MIAA tournaments, winning twice before losing in the North Div. 3 quarterfinals. On Wednesday, the Raiders playoff run ended with an 11-0 loss to Bishop Fenwick. The 23rd seeded Watertown got there by beating 10th seed Charlestown 7-3 on June 18, and then shutting down Northeast Metro, the seventh seed, 2-0 on Monday. The Raiders finished the season with a record of 5-10.

Watertown’s Callahan Named Framingham State’s Head Baseball Coach

Framingham State named Watertown native and FSU alum Sean Callahan its new head baseball coach. 

Callahan moves to Framingham after three years working as an assistant coach, most recently at Stonehill College. He also worked as the hitting and catching coach at UMass-Boston. “We are thrilled to welcome Sean back to Framingham State to lead the baseball program,” said Framingham State Athletic Director Tom Kelley in the announcement. “Sean brings a wealth of baseball knowledge and as a former Ram, he is familiar with the University, the baseball program, and the league. We are looking forward to Sean guiding the program into a new era.”

WHS Sports: Baseball and Softball Compete in State Tournament

Two Watertown High School teams took the diamond Friday in first game of the MIAA State Tournament game, one at home and one on the road. Baseball

The Raiders came up against Newburyport’s tough left-handed pitcher Casey McLaren, who blanked 17th seeded Watertown, 3-0, in Friday’s Div. 3 North preliminary round game. Watertown senior right fielder Wenston Rodriguez got the team’s lone hit. The Raiders also got a walk.

WHS Sports: Raiders Spring into State Tournament in Multiple Sports

Watertown High School’s athletic successes continued into the spring season, with four teams earning spots in the state tournament. 

Softball

The Raiders’ softball squad will host a home game in the MIAA Div. 3 North Tournament. Coming in with a record of 12-8, Watertown earned the 12th seed and will host Winthrop at Hosmer Field in a preliminary round game on Friday at 4 p.m.

The team enters the tourney on a hot streak. After tough first half of the year, the Raiders won 9 of their last 11. The winner of Friday’s game will take on No.

Watertown High School Grad Taking His Game to the Next Level at Bentley

Former Watertown High School baseball player Austin Farry has continued his career on the diamond at nearby Bentley University. 

While at Watertown High School he also played football and hockey, and served as captain for all three sports his senior year. He was a member of the 2015 State Championship winning hockey team and played in the Shriner’s Football Game and Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association all-star game. After not getting much time on the field in his freshman year, Farry — an outfielder for the Falcons — has seen a lot of playing time in his junior year and has a career batting average of over .260. This season, through 24 games, Farry has a .256 batting average, 22 hits (including two doubles), 15 runs, and eight RBIs. Watertown News caught up with Farry to see how life is at Bentley.
